2003 Gil de Ferran BRAZIL 2002 Helio Castroneves BRAZIL 2001 Helio Castroneves BRAZIL 2000 Juan Montoya COLOMBIA 1999 Kenny Brack SWEDEN 1998 Eddie Cheever Jr. USA 1997 Arie Luyendyk NETHERLANDS 1996 Buddy Lazier USA 1995 Jacques Villenueve CANADA 1994 Al Unser Jr. USA 1993 Emerson Fittipaldi BRAZIL Of course, both IRL and Cart are/were lacking local heroes... But limiting the number of foreigners in the series is not a solution. Sam Hornish Jr. is a better driver because he had to beat the likes of De Ferran and Castroneves. Maybe I should go back to Germany and ask them to forgive me for giving up my own nationality for another country. There's enough talent here already. Moreno in V8 Supercar? No thanks, an ageing former top liner now on the journeyman treadmill is not what the series needs. Vasser was showing interest too.
BTW, did anyone else almost fall off their chair when Vasser said the AU had a better front end than the Champcar? Where do racing drivers go to retire? Well it used to be Indycar/Champcar but could it be Supercar? Last edited by Mattracer; 27 Oct 2003 at 07:27. |

He would be a good test driver, but with this restricted test day regime, may not shine till year 2, by which time his team may have given up on him

No. Let's face it, we aren't talking F1 here. The V8's aren't cutting edge technology. Just a lot of power in a heavy car with comparatively poor grip and brakes.
Any good driver worth his salt will do well in a good team. Come on over Roberto... |
