Collard can't come up with funds. That's why he isn't there.

What's stopping Triple Eight returning to running four cars though? If Paul can't put a deal together with them then I'd guess at him knocking on Team Dynamics' door. Or how about a Techspeed MG?

Triple Eight never did fund four cars. In 2001-2002 they funded 2 and Egg funded two. They already made a step up to funding 3 ths year, adn obviously felt that it was unsustainable, especially as they weren't finishing 1-2-3 too often.

Wont has hines done to desevre a drive with a top team. He only won the championship last season becasue they were on 6 people in it, and the only car championship he won was the Southern formula fords. Rob Collard is the peolpe champion, (like matt neil was when he was an indenpandent). Rob worked very hard last year to get the money to drive, he desevered the seat. Hines Dont

Collard ain't quite as poor as some may imagine - and Hines not quite as rich as many believe! Its all about being able to put a deal together and having the confidence that you can underwrite it - I know of at least one independent running next year who had to put down a very, very large deposit - enough to fund a full season in one of the lesser formulae.

I no the year he won the southern ff, Martin Hines won't pay for him to drive in the national championship, because he thought the costs are too hight( which they are)but now the zip ff are up and running, he has enough the get luke a drive. Wont is the current charge for a good drive in a independant team. Over £150,000

If you want GA or Barwell to run you, you probably need about twice that - "works" VX - probaly nearer £400,000.

The costs to run in the BTCC depends on many items. If you have to design cars, how many days testing, if you employ fulltime staff for the whole year, how you maintain the cars. Therefore budgets for 2 cars could be as high as £2000000 for a works team . Independents £800000 for a top team down to £400000.

Thank you Mr. Briggs - I was suggesting how much a driver would need to bring with him so I think your figures (and you should know) pretty much back up my guestimate in that respect.

Exactly, he managed to complete a full season with only smalltime sponsors on his car like a Vauxhall garage and a double glazing company. Hardly multinational conglomerates.

The family firm is big in waste disposal - and you all know that good old Northern saying:

Collard's firm also does lots of demolition and haulage in the Farnbourgh/Farnham area (currently knocking down some parts of Farnham Hospital), so techincally hes sponsored by the NHS

I think a lot will be expected of Luke next year going by how good he was in his first year of tin tops this season past.

Could be a dissapointment if he doesn't astound people.

And so what if his daddy's rich? I know if mine were I wouldn't stop paying for a drive incase people think bad of me...
