Apart from the usual Ferrari 1-2, Ant's time shopuld be a bit embarassing for all others, particulrly largely outrun teammates

Don't agree there. This is a similar pattern to previous weekends. Ant blitzes it and in so doing finds the best set up. Then the race drivers pick up on the settings and go for the times. Sensible strategy IMO.

Fisi stopped for no obvious reason. Lots of spinning
action, Michael, Kimi, Alonso and Zonta have all had them. Leinders, Glock and Coulthard have run wide across grass. |

Peter, just to be clear, I do hope you're right; on the other hand, however, I'm wondering what the other two are doing on the track if just Ant is looking for the right setup; and, once more, why should they run choose on purpose a wrong setup in order to let Ant figure out better?

It could be that the set ups being run by the race drivers are "race" set ups and not ultimate set ups.

Looking at Ant and MS's quickest sectors there could be another 4 tenths off the lap time. Reckon we could see them in the 1.28's before the end of the day.

Yeah - were they trying new stuff or what? Quite a few laps from most of them too. You'd at least expect the Willis and Renaults to be closer. Guess we'll have to wait for this affy and tomorrow morning to see a truer picture.
Great lap from Ant - this Friday rule is certainly working in terms of giving the odd third driver some great PR. Hope it helps find him a drive for next season! |

That's what makes me think we are seeing two "set ups" running.

I think it is natural to expect Ant to go a little bit quicker - he can do more laps with more revs without fear of losing the engine. Honda should be just a little cautious this weekend - they don't want two spectacular failures in a week.

Yeah.. and Williams always are slow on Fridays... probably saving the engines...
Its quite amazing the confidence Ferrari have in their reliabilty that they can go flat out without having to worry about a blow up... |

Good day for Ferrari. Hope that this form lasts throughout the weekend. Nice to see RB right up behind MS again..

Ants first p1. He had a few other potentials but twice got held up on a hot lap by Takuma of all people! and once by Bruni.
Well he doesn't as a rule get more revs than JB or TS, it was only 200rpm more at Monaco which makes very little differance actually. He does get more new tyres, but he won't be for the pm session I'm told ...so don't expect p1 later. However you (and the teams) have to credit him for how quickly he always learns new tracks...the Playstation takes quite a hammering! |
