Yes it does.
Well, the European Union does at least. Beethoven's Ode to Joy. |

[off topic] It's probably very politically incorrect but does anyone else find it ironic that the united Europe has an anthem that was originally written in German - after two world wars to stop Germany from taking over Europe in the 20th Century [/off topic]
Anyway, back to national flags. At the end of the day, if his country doesn't want their flag being worn for sport, then that's their decision. It's not up to FIA or anyone else to say otherwise. |

That's true, but as F1 doesn't race in India (yet) they can't stop him doing as he pleases outwith their borders.
The helmet design uses the flag colours, but not in a flag shape in any case. |

Interesting. I wonder if national flags are covered by copyright law?
Bottom line, whilst they may not be able to stop him, they can certainly make life very difficult for him if he doesn't do it. For instance, be a bit hard to be an F1 driver if your country suspended your passport......... If the reports about this being a political issue to do with cricket are correct, then I imagine that a quiet agreement will be made once the furore has died down a bit. |

True. I'm not 100% on this, but I'm sure I read somewhere Narain also has a UK passport. May be wrong. But I agree the thing will die down. |

I for one think having an identity, knowing where your roots are and being proud of showing them to everyone is great. It's another thing to kill or make wars for nationalistic reasons, but then again it's bad to kill anyone or anything.
As for Karthikeyan... He now should stage a helmet design competition... |

I always thought it was the 'Eurovision' one-the best tune played at the song contest-it also used to open coverage of Monaco F1 back in black & white BBC days.

Hmmm, I don't know how you can understand from EP's post that she meant that Germany's national anthem was the same as the Ode To Joy one...
She only said it was written in German... Strange that... what was this thread about again? |

It's overused already, you can also hear it on UEFA Champions League programs, and it is also played on Formula 1, when drivers spray Mumm allover the place on the podium.

Karthikeyan has sported the same helmet design in all his years of racing in international series so how come it's a problem now

I suppose distorting a bit the design will be ok. I cannot imagine someone from indian gov looking with a magnifying glass if there are three particular colors in the helmet :->

Flip - just wondered - does the fact that there is a wheel on the Indian flag mean that he isn't allowed any of those either?
