Here are some pic's I've found. (lots more still to go through)
Terry Briggs, Renault Alpine (Croft circa 1987)

The Holden Commodore when it was driven by Jacques Franssen. (Lydden 1991)

Jos Sterkens, Mondeo (Pembrey 1997)

I'll try to find one of the Mavropolus/Betteridge/Maynard, Lotus. I'm sure I have one somewhere

According to Bill Mantovani Rallycross was concieved at Brands in 1963, but the first true rallycross event was Lydden 1967. It was all thought up because of cancelled rally's and the need for somthing to fill vacant TV slots.
If you get chance to get hold of a copy of DRIVE IT, The Complete Book Of Rallycross do, it charts rallycross from its beginings up to the early 80's.

Wasn't it about filling the slots on Grandstand when the horse racing was cancelled due to movement restrictions due to an outbreak of foot and mouth in the mid sixties. This would fit in with rallies being cancelled as well for the same reasons
The three + minutes of the rallycross heat was about the same time as a horse race.
Can also remember watching those capri's, they looked so big.
Who used to drive the Hilman Imp?

Wasn't Grp B just wonderful? It was made for Rallycross.

More power than you knew what to do with, and then some to spare.

Just how it should be. Proper Rallycross.

Just some thoughts

The De Roys ford engined dafs

Per Inge Wolfrasen and the I think works volvos

4 wheel drive capris

4wheel drive triumph 1500 - I recently found apicture of this in a french motorsport magazine and sent it to Arther Debenham.

The Harper Imp - virtually unbeatable in its day

The 205 T16s of Alamaki and Sche

and of course the wonderfull Porsches of Nittamaki and Alamaki

What memories and the drivers were all rel characters.

3 or 4 years ago @ NUTTS CORNER (RIP). A driver who will remain nameless,
decided to bring out for rallycross a Citreon BX and decided to barrel roll over the finish line in spectacular fashion.

Nice!
To drive it, or just to look at the car?

Do you have some spec of the car?
In Belgium there are a few MR2's in rallycross, also the MK1 model as yours.

This was from Excel back in 2007.
It was possibly the last time I ran the car, that turned out to be a nightmare meeting after hitting the temporary wall and damaging the steering. We rebuilt the rear end and fitted a new fibreglass bumper before selling it to a guy in Finland.

He raced the car before possibly it changed hands again. I know the Toyota engine was replaced by a Honda Vtec.

German Franz Pickel’s AMG Mercedes 300SEL 6.3.
Franz drove it on the roads to the RX tracks and just covered the headlamps.

Was it sold to Finn Jouko (aka Jokke) Kallio?
The Rallycross driver for many a year and ex-Truck Racing double Euro Champ with Sisu.

the Dennis Marcel car was a Talbot Matra Murena, lovely car, think there were one or two others but not sure
i remember somebody trying to rallycross a Jag XJ at Croft a lot of years ago, ridiculous car, i recall every corner was quite an adventure
that Porsche whatever it was of Rob Gibsons (before the 911) was surely unique

Rob Gibson had a turbocharged 914 Porsche.

There were at least half a dozen Talbot Matra Murenas for RX in France and Belgium. Jean-Pierre Beltoise, Max Mamers, Denis Marcel, Jean-Claude Macchetto, Bernard Cavigneaux, Luc Noyen etc.

Commodire was orginally Eddy Guffens for Carglas with Kumpen/Steukers.

Then Jacques Fransen?

The Moza was Eivind Rosnes, hand throttle, a bit like The guy who races Ludvigs old car in Sweden now eh? Is it Thiman?
