You're confusing two completely different things. A shorter circuit does reduce the laptime gaps - 2 seconds here equals about 3 seconds at most circuits. The improvement in laptimes last year was due to the race moving from early in the season to late in the next season, therefore meaning that a whole season's development had been done in addition to most teams building a brand new car.

They are both running EJ15Bs for the second weekend - it has proven to be quick, it got them a competitive point in Spa, and remember, it is using a Toyota engine.

I thought Narain would be higher - his lap put him about 6th for a second, and he was bumped back to 14th as the session progressed.
