Russia actually had their ST series back in the late nineties too averaging about 4-6 cars per a race? A pair of Accords, 1 Mondeo, 1 BMW that I could recall. Don't know if it was a multi class series though?

Given the amount of money washing around Russia these days, should one of the oil or steel billionaires want to make a name for himself and get behind it by creating a Lada a world class team then the others better watchout. After all if RML can put a Daewoo into the top ten then why not a Lada?
Not sure if BMW would stick around for long when there tails get whipped by a lada though. |

Great stuff.
Some (not all) are all very happy to criticize if a category can't get a grid, yet pan a manufacturer putting in abit of effort (and money) to participate in a series? I would ask all the one's having a laugh, how many of you have actually driven a Lada? |

And, from what I ubderstand they want an American driver for extra exposure. They hired a marketing company in the U.S to head the deal.

Let's see what the finished product looks like - after all, this was a tuning show where the car was presented. I'm almost sure it is a show car. |

Even Volvo struggled in S2000 during their time in the WTCC. Quote:

I have driven a Niva (fine off-roader but a real 4x4, not a sissyboy SUV) and a Samara (alright if you don't expect too much - mine was a Baltic, built by Valmet in Finland so put together somwhat better than the Togliatti cars).

Lada 2107 was actually one of the best cars in eastern block - with dynamic engines and better suspension than for example Polish Fiat 125p. And VFTS, 160hp rally version absolutely rocks !

The VFTS as a rally car is superb to watch; a few still run in Hungary and come across the border for rallies sometimes. Our very own Rudi Stohl (dad of WRC driver MAnfred Stohl) used to do the East African Safari with Ladas. Great car. But sadly not suitable for WTCC.

I've drive a Niva and have a Samara (not registered thoguh).
The Niva is a very good motor car. The Samara was the victim of alot of bad stories from the motoring press, but i never found too overly much wrong with it (having Peter Brock endorse and tune the Samara's in Australia helped a little) |

Didn't know LADA cars were sold outside Europe and (former) Communist countries. |

a few weeks ago i privatly talked with AutoVAZ work driver Sergey Nuzhdin. He said this project inspired mostly from German side (MTEC). Also he confirmed, that from 2007 will be introduced car, based on new Priora model, but this will happen, if new model will be homologated (AFAIR, before car can raced, the basic model should be manufactured 25.000 in number).

The sideskirts aren't allowed by S2000-rules so this isn't the car we'll be seeing on the grid next year. Already this project seems more promising then the Skoda and Brilliance attempts...

Having just looked at the car, glad to see Lada keep with tradition by keeping their designs 20 years behind the rest of the world
Isn't that just a Ford Sierra! |

Skoda program was 2 (or 3) years ago I believe. Private team showed a demo version of the car (Skoda Superb) and even announced 2 drivers. Haven't heard much about since then. |
