I was going to say Valentine's Day has come early but somebody beat me to it.

The last time it was discussed "everybody" said you won't receive a reply until Valentine's Day. I received my reply this afternoon, ergo, it must be Valentine's Day

Can I ask why, through the year on the bank, I hear so many people slagging off the BGP saying it is boring and they'll never do another one...then I see the excited hoards on Ten Tenths who seem to be well pleased to have their invites?

Personall I did the 2001 BGP but haven't done one since so am quite looking forward to this years too. Yes there was a lot of waiting around but it's quite a spectacle to behold! Why do so many slag it off?

Different expectations on what the GP is all about. I know i'll be standing around alot waiting for 'things to happen', but the GP is more than just a race meeting for me, the atmosphere, the crowds, the crew on post, the BBQ & beer each night with friends and family all make it worthwhile for me.

To me after all these years it's still the ultimate (well apart from Indy Ovals), when the 1st F1 car comes out on the Friday morning the hairs on the back of my neck still rise, the day they dont, will be the year I say that, that was my last. Hasn't happened yet after 15 British, 3 European & 11 other grand Prix's.

I've only marshalled one GP, but have been to 3 others as the guest of other marshals. The first time you see and hear an F1 car in the flesh it is amazing and Dave is right when he says it makes the hairs stand up on the back of your neck! One of the other things I love about silverstone on GP weekend is the atmosphere. Marshalling at Silverstone a lot I see it week in week out when it is cold, pouring with rain, the grass is long and it is generally looking a bit sorry for itself. I love walking in on Friday morning and seeing Silverstone the way it is meant to be. Its clean, tidy, everything is painted and new and it looks amazing and that can take your breath away in itself! Yes there is lots of waiting around but that doesn't matter that much and to be honest in 2005 it meant we could seek some shade for a bit. The social side of things in the evening is great too!

I can't wait till June!

There is something special about the Grand Prix which makes us keep coming back to it. Yes there is hell of a lot of waiting around and time wasting when we HAVE to be on post so Charly boy can see our smiling faeces when he parades around - oh did i spell that wrong?

And yes I agree with Dave it still makes the hair on the back of the neck tingle, when that doesnt happen I will probably stop too.

AND, the marshals' camp site is brilliant in respect of meeting up with people you've perhaps not seen for a while, may be a year even, sharing a few beers (or beer if you go to the 'party') and barbecues etc. Just have to remember no references to sheep and wellingtons if a certain flaggy turns up
I'll be there, God willing, sent my card back today.
