Interesting point, that has been on the drawing board for quite a while now.... It will be an open road endurance V8 Supercar race called " The Upper Lurg 500", with a circuit taking in a big 11.2 km of the roads surrounding the winton circuit, something a little akin to Longford in Tasmania. Cars will do 45 laps, with each lead driver only allowed to complete a maximum of 55% of the race distance, and Main Series drivers are not allowed to be paired. In fact in a true stroke of local support, co-drivers have to be members of the Benalla Auto Club, and may hold a CAMS or AASA licence to compete. It is not to be confused with the "Lurg 3 hr race for sports touring bikes" which stays away from 'Upper' Lurg, but goes right up the main st of Lurg, modelled on the Isle of Man TT. M.A. is said to be offering the TV rights to the highest bidder There was also a plan to run a Tatong trophy race, which saw (recycled PROCAR) production based cars in a Targa style race to the 'World famous' Tatong Tavern (about 20km from Winton) and return, although the CAMS track safety committee were a little unsure of the merits of cars racing in opposite directions on the same piece of road. When the reverse grid format was pointed out, agreement was reached, with the BAC citing " Cars run in both directions along that road, day & night , and the p1ssed local Bogans & B & S warriors never have head on's" Renown Motorsport Entrepreneur Algenon " Shagger" Truscott is reported to be keen to co-promote the events, saying that motorsport in this country was "lacking adventure". Winton CEO " Big" Mick Ronke & the artist formerly known as AVE$$CO's head money grabber Tony " Black Wiggle " Cochbrain were both refusing to comment on this exciting development. . |

The only case we have ever been on, is a case of beer; And secondly, all AVE$$CO have to do is tell the BAC when.... BTW, I am not actually from the Benalla district, I was run out of town about 12 years ago........... |

I Could name a few dozen events which surpass the tired V8 SuperEgo series but methinks would be casting pearls before swine.I DON'T GIVE A DAMN where COCKROACH unleashes his dancing bears as long as its not in mainland Australia or Tassie. Hearde Island or Australian Antarctic Territory,OK.This clown must go.
I'm looking forward to Russell Ingall asking me if I'd like fries with my Big Mac, or Marcus Ambrose ringing from Mumbai to get me to change Insurance provider. Lets have the Kelly Country 1000 based in Benalla, with Winton as a pit stop as V8 utes race to Glenrowan and back via the Warby Ranges till their Tyres pop. Makes as much sense as racing V8 Supershells in the third world. |

Well Rombles, I would say it is a fair guess that if your theory was correct, every promoter of a permanent circuit in Australia would put together to give you the holiday of a lifetime. China, Bahrain, Dubai, Malaysia, Indonesia (you never know), and both Islands of New Zealand. If rumour of this gets out, they may even extend the holiday to encompass Macau & Suzuka. Send us some postcards |

As good as the Upper Lurg 500 sounds, can't wait for the surfside 500 mooted a few years back at Cronulla to get a run.

Hey, if they are hell-bent on taking the series overseas, why not try that 28km (?) track in Germany - now THAT would be AWESOME!

Has anybody heard of plans to do a few alterations at QR that would change the character of the track considerably.

I heard of elevation changes, and a big change to at least one corner.

The great thing about redesigning this track is that anyone can have a go - You take one paperclip, and bend it to suit your new plan. I can just see a committee working on this.... with a whole heap of trashed paperclips in a pile in the corner.... "nope, that one won't work, lets try it this way....."

Plans have been on the table now since the track opened to extend the circuit - now whether these plans have been dusted off again remain to be seen.

Maybe V8SA didn't want to come to terms.
Maybe that weekend was earmarked by the chinese during the "face-to-face" talks that we don't know about. Maybe V8SA can now "cleverly" arrange to slot the Shanghai round into the weekend vacated because of the inability to come to terms with organisers at QR. Maybe I just need to put my imagination away. |

But isnt the whole area surrounding Queensland Raceway flat ?
are they going to put some artificial hills into the circuit ? Does anyone have a map of Queensland Raceway and the surrounding land that is part of the raceway, what real estate do they have to play with ? |

Calder and it's surrounding area are flat, didn't stop Bob putting a man-made hill on the circuit when it was extended in 1986.
