This is to me the biggest shame they can ever imagine...kato won that series without any serious competitors ,unlike last year ,and after how many years of FR 2.0??
Press should look at the young boys doing so well such as Hon Wei or Hrayanto who did a brillant season for a 15 years old boy... |

Kato will probably end up filing one fr seat paid by FRD,since otherwise they will have no driver.
REnault finally ended its contract with FRD so they re on their own now. Latest paddock rumors: -Modena switch to AFOS 2.0 -ART goes back to FRD??? -Still no calendar or info about a FR championship form FRD lol |

Asian Formula Renault or Formula Asia 2.0???????
There seems to be a bit of confusion around the Formula Asia 2.0 and Asian Formula Renault series.
I'm a driver having to make the choice between both racing series and I have analyzed information about both series and I would like to know from others what they consider to be the best choice. As far as I can see from information available between the 2 series is the following. Please let me know what you think is correct? Or if you have additional information. 1. Formula Asia 2.0 has got proper TV coverage and AFR does not. Which of course will be key to obtaining any sponsors. 2. Formula Asia 2.0 has got proper Scrutineers from European Renault championships AFR has not, I heard their scrutineering was already bad with Renault, wonder what it will be without any control from Renault? Maybe a “free for all”?. 3. AFR claim to have hospitality is the standard any good? Cant seem to find anything on FA2.0 hospitality. 4. FA2.0 has got proper press releases and photographers and a half decent website unlike FRD. 5. AFR’s entry fee is 100.000 HKD and FA2.0 is 120.000 HKD 6. However by the looks of it AFR is trying to make money on the shipping, just for calculations sake: FA 2.0 claims their shipping cost is around 20.000 USD per container. A container from my experience can take up around 4 cars, so that is 5000 USD per car. AFR is asking 90.000 HK per car for shipping and they only go outside of china once. Where as FA2.0 is all over Asia. So to compare the total cost for FA 2.0 is (HKD and USD exchange rate at 7.75) Registration 15.500 USD plus shipping 5000 USD = 20.500 USD per car. AFR is 13000 registration fee plus 12.000 USD on Shipping is 25.000 USD so AFR is about 4500 USD more expensive then FA2.0 7. Tyres FA2.0 is using the Michelin tyres, AFR is using Khumo, are they any good? From my experience in Europe is that the Michelin tyres are very consistent, what about the khumo’s? Price wise they are around the same price per set. Formula Asia has got a strict tyre parc ferme and AFR has got “some sort of tyre control” what does that mean? FA2.0 has got 15 rounds AFR only 14. 8. FA 2.0 has got 6 events and AFR has got 7 events. Looks like some money can be saved on hotels and flights with AF2.0 9. FA2.0 will be across 4 different countries and AFR only 2 different countries. 10. In terms of classes and classification they are about the same as far I can see. 11. In terms of track time it looks like FA2.0 has got more track time 6 testing sessions/free practice, plus half an hour qualifying and compare to 2 free practice sessions and a 15 mniute warm up. 12. What events are AFR running with? I heard the AFOS events and Super GT are pretty good events? 13. Most of the professional teams are now in FA2.0, ART, March 3, Modenas Motorsport, PTRS, Champ and DTM. Some other observations I have made, why would FRD refuse Renaults offer? Anybody know’s? Also looks like Motorsport Asia has blocked FRD from coming to Malaysia at their home ground as AFR intended to come to Malaysia’s super GT as well. Wonder what happened there. I also wonder how FRD will manage to keep the name Renault in their championship name when Renault does not support the series any more, would be interesting to see what kind of Lawsuit FRD will get from Renault, which means they have to change to name. Which means more confusion for outsiders. Well if I look at the list above of facts looks like FA2.0 is better value for money and comes out as the better choice. Anyone has got any idea on grid numbers for both series? Please do let me know if you have any further information that can help me with making a choice. Happy racing |

Well i have been involved in both for many years and can tell you the following:
1-Renault never propose an extension and FRD lost their support by continuously breaching the terms. 2-THere is no hospitality in AFR, you just got two extra passes. 3-Also no Tv coverage at all in AFR, a complete shame of a website (never updated) and the week end are dull (races with Asian GT 5 cars). 4-Shipping with AFR is a complete ripp off as you said, where Afos is doing it at cost. 5-Technical and scrutineering has always been a problem in FRD, with people cheating and getting away because they were FRD boss friend, or because they needed the teams car on the grid, or because it was a frd car involved. 6-Also the AFR will probably end up with 6 races in zhuhai and one in thailand as it was this year. 7-also very important the level of competition in AFR is pitifull. Well honestly both championship have their problems but as a driver you should go for the AF2.0, what is the point to Race in AFR, no technical equality and nothing to show to your sponsors anyway. |

your message should be more elaborate. nonetheless. you made me smile with scense. renault was asking for aid. afos formula renault failed. afos promise a lot but cannot make numbers. no cars. no drivers interest. people say afos kill formula renault in asia to help bmw to increase formula bmw numbers. afos is partner of formula bmw. frd gonna return this year but formula bmw took from formula renault most of drivers and teams and prestige.

Hi Lam Pak,glad i returned the favor, your posts always makes me laugh.
I would suggest though that you find a new english translator cause we can hardly understand what you mean. 1-Clear enough though that you either work for champ or are the biggest fan they have. 2-You have no idea of the relationship Renault FRD other that waht you heard from Champ. Strange enough last year when Champ was going to AFOS you were blessing AFOS and cursing FRD. Now that CHamp seems to go back to FRD suddenly AFOS is evil lol.... |

no point to go mad arguee you. the results are to show you the brake force readings in final. afos failed to have numbers in fa2.0 and fv6. there were lots of good things but you cant make races with 6 cars. 2008 say formula renault in asia almost go dead cause of afos and frd combat. teams near to die. asia racing reputation was badly affect for this. this is not good. in this pressure moments have to move for other places. better days are coming. byebye 2008.
end topic for me. |
