Difficult to say if the noise we are hearing will be noticeable at the races?

I fear a lot of resonance and reflection of the sound comes from the Amphitheater-shaped tribunes, and that the engine-sound itself isn't as impressive as in this video.
Although I am very happy with the sounds in this vid, because the previous one with only sounds under breaking had me comparing the R18 with a souped up vacuum cleaner! The Audi under full blast sounds much better than that! (hopefully under its one steam also, and not just because of the Echo) |

Looks like last year's Rebellion Lola with that black and red.

I agree. It was difficult to fully see the livery but in those quick glimpses I had the same impression. I think the Rebellion livery is great but a bit unusual that Audi would copy/imitate one of the underlings.
That is a wild sound. I really like the sound these cars are making while they harvest via the KERS and then apply it on exit. As someone said, spaceage sounds. |

You can easily tell the sound of 458 from R18 I suppose, and god I love the noise of a R18 slowing down at the corner.

(Picture was posted on the Midweek Motorsport Listeners Collective Facebook page earlier today)
Is this even legal? When you have this amount of light in your rearview mirror, surely you're blinded for at least 5 seconds? Seems very safe for the Audi drivers, very dangerous for anyone who gets overtaken! (almost all other cars) |

If the drivers do get blinded for a period of time, that's dangerous.
And the overtaken drivers already have very much trouble estamating the distance between them and the Audis already, and which way they are going (left, right) so I don't think this helps very much. |

I think that the deal with Rocky had a lot more to do with Kauffman's inexperience at LM than anything else--other prototype and GT teams filed at least 10 complaints against the MWR/AF Corsa Ferrari for ignoring blue flags earlier in the race, and apparently Rob was the biggest offender, judging by the ACO asking him (or rather insisting for him) to sit out the rest of the race.
And I'd believe that the Xenon lights that Audi ran in the past and most teams still use can't be much easier on the drivers, either. Besides, the photo is of a 2013 car, anyways. With the lighting at Yas Marina, we can't see how the new laser lights work aside from them being functional. |

I moved the lengthy posts about different energy storage systems to the technical regulations discussion thread.

Audi claim from testing that lap times from '13 to this year should be similar even with the fuel consumption limits:
http://audi-motorsport-blog.blogspot...i-drivers.html So maybe the "claimed" 1:42 lap time from Sebring in Dec. (which Audi also probably ran with the '13 R18 in testing there last year) wasn't a fluke, since they've said in testing that they've been testing with the fuel consumption limits in mind. |

Does that mean they'll be faster in qualifying? Or do they have to set their times with the race fuel limits?
