Is there a cylinder limit in GTE or is a 5.5L V10 or V12 allowed?

My bad, I was of the impression the regs only allowed 8 cylinders max but I may have had my wires crossed with the LMP regs...

You can't just drop any engine into a GTE. It has to be available in the road car at a minimum of 100 units and a 9:1 road car:race car ratio (or permanent factory setup to build that many, which makes the Viper legal).
This is the rule that's befouling the BMW Z4 GT3 from being used in GTE. BMW doesn't build a V8 street version of the Z4. There are some rules governing engine components as well. Block needs to be original, but can be machined to re-bore/re-stroke/add sleeves, etc (which makes a 5.5L Corvette legal based on the 6.2L LS3/LS9). Heads, valve angles, # and location of camshafts must remain original. So no DOHC LS engines coming down any time soon. But there is no limit on number of cylinders, as long as it's available in the road car. Any engine swapping was covered under the old IMSA-only GTS2 rulebook for "sports sedans" which that stillborn Lexus IS project was built to. You could swap out any engine from the same manufacturer but there was an 8cyl limit, and it was basically covered under the same modification rules. Last edited by Duff_44; 12 Aug 2012 at 17:11. A sedan is a saloon car. So like a Mondeo or an A4.

Well in following the ACO's trending of flying elephants through the rule book they could just change the wording and say the engine must be "In Production" or "Production Ready"

I'd say ditch the capacity limit and word it as 'engines produced in x amount by manufacturer'. Problem solvered boss.

I've heard that with minimal fuss the Fezza V12 fits in the F458...

No current V12 is under 5.5 liters, unless they get a waiver, maybe Arakis would stop complaining about BOP for the other cars! I kid...

A Ferrari client which will remain nameless (ahem... British, famous guitarist) actually commissioned from Ferrari themselves a 458 with a V12 engine and a different body shell. And they did build it.

The SP12-EC doesn't have the V12.

It still has the V8. Unless Victor is talking about a different British guitarist . |

I Regulations are written by people, people make mistakes, mistakes that can often only be highlighted when cars hit the track.
In addition if you want every wonderful shape and engine combination, don't be surprised cars need specific waivers to make them competitive or compliant. Would you ban the 458 because it was too wide, the Mclaren because its a carbon chassis, the Viper because it's unrealistic to get the V10 down to 5.5? If you want a representative GT field you have make compromises, the alternative doesn't bear thinking about, either silhouettes or only allowing certain drive trains, I. E front engined rwd. |

www.worldcarfans.com/112082147444/bmw-working-on-an-m-performance-z4---report
Well, BMW has renamed the Z4 sDrive 35is as the Z4 M35i Performance (which is a TAD better name I suppose), but still no sign of a V8 Z4... |
