If a circuit was 1/4 the length of LeMans then an 8MJ car would have 8/4MJ = 2MJ available for that circuit. There are exact figures available for each circuit but I am sure somebody will give the exact ones. |

Actually 8MJ can't be harvested and released in single lap in a "short" track like silverstone. At le mans it will be possible. Anyway to me we will see the pole in about 3.18-3.19

To make up for the fact that most circuits aren't like La Sarthe in both length and characteristics, there is an ERS multiplier of 1.55 (page 3) applied to the hybrid energy allowance after it has been adjusted for circuit length. So for Silverstone, Porsche had: => (5.891/13.629) * 1.55 * 8 = 5.36MJ available per lap. Audi had half of that (2.68MJ) and Toyota had 3/4 (4.02MJ). |

A very nice analysis by Paul Trusswell :http://www.trussers.blogspot.com/
Interesting to note that Porsche's (#18) best stint was the last one with the fastest average time (for them). This seems to contradict the thesis of the "reduced efficiency of the Porsche Hybrid system as the race goes on" proclaimed by some. |

Apparently the 30h test taking is (was) taking place at Paul Ricard.

Granted testing is the place to find all the bugs, It sounds like they had bugs if "final solutions" are still to be implemented.

Could Hulkenberg be on his way to Porsche full time next year? He does not see many good prospects in F1 long term.

2016 would be a good time for Nico to jump ship I'd say. His chances of moving up the grid significantly are pretty much zero.
He could move sideways again in the hope of landing a marginally stronger car - like Sauber this year. But ultimately if his aim is to win races and world titles the decision is a no-brainer. Locking up a long-term deal with Porsche would prolong his career in motorsport and be another great development for the WEC. |

Just to clarify, La Sarthe is atypical to the other WEC circuits in that it is comprised mostly of long straights followed by slow corners/chicanes. So there's proportionally not as much braking, but they are almost all big braking events (i.e. from close to or at maximum speed). With the assumption that the factory P1s will harvest energy primarily from KERS, the multiplier makes sure that they aren't carrying too large a hybrid system (and therefore the extra weight) at the other tracks which won't have such ample opportunity for energy recovery. I think for Hulkenberg this makes a lot of sense on many fronts:
1) He seems comfortable and well-integrated with Porsche 2) Fast driver, but also consistent and does not make many mistakes – probably good endurance driver DNA… 3) Calm personality that seemingly can work smoothly with other drivers 4) Too tall/large to fit the F1 ideal. Things are better this year, as the cars are getting to the minimum weight more easily than last year. But it seems to have been a factor in keeping Hulk out of a better seat (and giving a small driver, like Massa, more appeal). It seems the WEC cars are not so critical in this aspect. 5) F1 continues on its extreme youth movement. Verstappen is 10 years younger! Now, of course we won’t see drivers quite that young going forward, but I think there will continue to be a constant crop of drivers in their early twenties and although 27 is still very young, one gets the feeling that there is a short window for a driver to get recognized as the next big thing, and I think Hulk has been passed over to a certain degree? When I think of the seats likely to be good in F1, I don’t see Hulk in line for any of them. I agree with the others here that think his realistic option might be to move from one midfield team to a slightly better one… I can see why he could seriously consider going fully time into the WEC with Porsche… |

It most certainly could be, but I suspect it was just a turn-of-phrase. I think he may be referring to final set-ups and aero packages.

Bet Alonso & Button wish they had 'seen the light' ............ really would have liked to have seen Button in the 919 this year - if ever there was a driver who's style was just 'made' for Sports cars then he must be it. Smooth, good in traffic, great in the wet .............

The same aero package on all 3 cars for Spa. The same aero package as used in Silverstone.

I was annoyed by this at first, but the more you think about it, the more inevitable it was going to be.

"Mr Enzinger, tear down this wall!"
You as well, Dr Ullrich. Don't you be getting any ideas either, Mr Vasselon. In other news, Timo Bernhard has a new helmet design for this race in memory of Stephan Bellof who died at the Spa 1000kms on September 1st, 1985. (Picture from DSC) |

Take those big walls away - what would you actually be able to see? Everything is still stored inside anyway. Maybe a few bits of bodywork or mechanics having a fag break.
It's not like the cars or anything that interesting was ever in full view. |

Taking the walls away would not change much. Last year in Spa it was dam hard to get a driver to give us an autograph as well. They were all totaly busy running from meeting to meeting... Best I could get was a picture with McNish. During the Pitlane-Autogram event the "star"-Driver were writing autographs on their cards like robots... It was much more fun to go done to the lower ranks like the Rebellion guys. Especially Kraihamer was very nice and open. The Ferrariguys were quite nice as well. Not to mention many of the GT-Am Teams which supplied you with actuall useful goodybags etc. I am stil wearing my Abu Dhabi Racing cap when I go running
Overall, the more professional the sport becomes the less interaction between drivers and fans is possible. |
