Probably worthwhile to not pay attention to anything.

Not all, I'm thinking only those that are ran with nonconforming (ACO) body work which will be allowed (at this point) in TUSC only will carry the nick name of DP.

Seems reasonable to me to refer to the IMSA-only P2-based cars as both "IMSA P2" and "DP". Although I can see IMSA not wanting to call them that because people will think they run carburetors.

I see nothing wrong in calling the next gen p2s run in Imsa as daytona prototypes.they won't be Aco legal except for Le Mans and there's no p1 in imsa,so why carry on the numeral identification.plus they will run at Daytona so daytona prototype will still fit.

I hope as a top tier protos, they will be eventually be allowed tech development.

The brand specific bodywork is a good idea to get manufacturers into the sport. But I hope this will also prevent areo development on the cars and make them focus on tech development elsewhere on the cars.

I wonder if these cars will have ground tunnels like the DPs do?

Agreed, "Daytona Prototype" has such a negative connotation that I hope they won't be calling the 2017 protos DPs.

How about "IMSA-P" instead of DP, since they run on more than just Daytona? But Daytona is their 'premiere event', so that may stick, like LeMans and in "LMP".

I would love to see an historical denomination of IMSA.

Well they are supposed to be prototypes with GT like bodies on them. So GTP is a sounds like a natural fit.

Calling the prototypes as GTP would be great, but I don't think IMSA will buy that idea!

On the other hand, I wish Audi would compete in the Prototype class if they're hungry for overall victories. Oh well, at least Volkswagen is satisfied that Bentley will compete instead.

Do I need to point out that Audi does compete in prototype racing?

The thing is you dont want Audi or other big guns willing to spend hundreds of millions scaring everyone else away. Imsa needs to be careful. But I think theyll just bop anyone too quick anyway. Probably why Audi said 'no thanks'.

Thing is, you do kind of need factories in your sport. The cars are the stars ultimately. Not drivers or teams.

But there should be a balance since factories can be unreliable like the team Viper.

Maybe they could allow Audi's V10 and 4 wheel drive with a weight BoP

An Bentley-badged Audi V10 and an AWD on their prototype? LOL, I think it'll make those Corvette DP owners very upset despite being balanced out (i.e. nerfed) to the rest of the pack!

Maybe IMSA should have allowed hybrid technology instead.

Well I would hope Bentley would use the turbo v8 and Audi would use the V10. But tell me, wouldn't it be cool if they allowed that to happen? An AWD V10 Audi monster Proto in the series. I would watch.
