Is that polymyalgia rheumatica Joe? If so, you have my sympathy. About 10 years ago Mrs mg started gertting pains in her thighs then in her upper arms as well which were really bad. Eventually diagnosed as PMR. She was put on a course of steroids for a year or so which did the trick but it was 3 years before she was pain free. Even now she has difficulty raising her arms above shoulder height. Very dibillitating. She cut down on drinking, particularly wine, because of the steroids but also because it gave a metallic taste in her mouth. |

According to The Times today Macron is quoted as saying "Today everything suggests that it is almost ineffective for those over 65, and some say over 60". Rather suggest dementia has set in early for him........ I'm due to get my first jab tomorrow (not sure but think AZ) and I'm more concerned that a neighbour who went for his today had a 2.5 hour queue, than I am about Monsieur Le Presidente's opinion Like Andy I'm a bit dubious about our (CSCC) Snetterton meet getting the go ahead - and if it does as hotels aren't open it would make it impossible for me - my days of camping are long gone. Oulton in April? A possible maybe - ish? |

The Chiltern Rally, set for May has been cancelled.
As to vaccines, I have mine tomorrow, a bit of a surprise because I'm not in the top four tiers. But hey ho. I guess as a mod on 10/10s I'm an essential worker. "WORKER!" |

Getting mine tomorrow too. Got a 15 mile drive in to York to get it. My wife, in the age tier below me, got her letter 10 days after me but has got her jab at the same place 5 minutes earlier than me. Also got our second jabs arranged for early April, again within 5 minutes of each other. At least we'll be able to drive in together.

I see the Bad Obsession lads have released the video about painting the Mini.
I have just realised I have now watched it twice in 24 hours. Over 200k views on YouTube suggests is has a decent amount of interest. Stunning work and attention to detail. In that connection it seems reasonable to make mention of it here. I think Mike B would have appreciated the efforts. |

I've just watched a brilliant Daytona 24 hours. Racing right up to the end. On such a short circuit there's always something going on. A young friend of mine won LMP2, I taught him when he started karting at Combe.

Agreed, the nearer the flag the better it got - could have been anyone's of 5 or 6 for the outright win, and just as close in some of the classes too.

Dipped in and out of the race all day and watched the final hour, great to see some circuit action. I can normally cast most YT content to the tv but I couldn't get that one to work. Talk about drama with the chasing Ganassi car puncturing with 10 mins to go!

Got to Blackburn for my Jab a bit early as no real traffic on a Sunday - lots of signposting to the car park - all good. About a 5 minute walk to the Cathedral, no probs - and Oh - happy days - only about 20 - 30 people queuing outside
Then I got inside - having to ditch my perfectly serviceable mask for an identical one - and there before me was what looked like the worst airline check-in, or border force, queue you have ever seen - probably 200 - 250 old farts like me shuffling along at social distances, winding back and forth and back and forth....... 2.5 hours later I'm at the front of the queue - where we are let in in batches of 14 - down some steep stairs (lift available) to be greeted by a small queue for 4 reception desks. Just as its my turn, the attendants ask if I'll let a frail old lady jump the queue and go in front of me - sure, I've waited 70 years, what's another 5 minutes Once at reception desk - pretty efficient (and friendly, as all attendants were), and soon on to the short queue for a vaccination bay. In there within a minute or so, a few standard questions and away we go. I was vaccinated by a fireman - they don't mess about with those hoses! - well to be fair I think he used a syringe - I never felt a thing. I got the Astra Zeneca shot. Expected to be told to wait for 15 minutes but no - just - "we advise you not to drive for 15 minutes" - yeah right, I'm so late I'll miss Tesco if I don't get a move on, so brisk walk back to the car and away..... So, no real problems, but the planning at Blackburn was appalling - the staff were all great -but whoever planned it wants shooting. I'm just 70, reasonably fit, but by the time I got out my back was aching from standing so long. There were a lot of people who were really suffering, and to wait 2.5 hours for a 5-minute process is just stupid. As I left the queue outside was probably 100 or more...... I've written to NHS and my MP to point out how bad the organisation was, whilst stressing that the staff on the ground were great. Hope its improved by 19th April when i'm booked in for second shot. |

By comparison, I turned up 20mins early, was fifth in the outside queue and hit my 11:20 slot about on time. Had a laugh with the doctor and her assistant, because I suggested the Pfizer vaccine, which was being administered, included Viagra. Anyway, a 15mins sit down and I was back home with a cold beer at 12:15.

On the up side - watched Le Mans (film) again yesterday on catch-up, having been called whilst in the vaccination queue by a mate to tell me it was on.

Despite my hospital writing to my GP requesting that my Covid vaccination should have been made a few weeks ago, so was protected for when I had to visit the hospital last week for tests, I only received my invitation to have the jabs in the post this morning. Now booked for next Tuesday at the Boots store in Halifax and again at the end of April for the booster shot.
Hopefully it will be better organised than it was for Richard, and more like Peter's experience. |
