It will be "global and exciting" announcement.

Tusc aint global, so it shouldnt be more of the same. My guess is its something involving the mx5.

Mazda 3 Touring Car for the new TC3 series would be my guess. With races in Europe, Asia and South America that would fit the global tag and I think some of their EU importers would be somewhat interested in such a car as TC3 series are planned in several European countries over the next few years and Mazda seems to want to get a bit more into racing in at least some European markets.

i agree it looks a great car but the MX5 was an amazing success because it was cheap to buy, cheap to run, simple and sold to people not interested in fast sportscars unfortunately they seem to be forgeting this and doing what the motoring press want and they never buy cars just get given them

Spot on. Despite being Japanese, the MX-5 was the quintessential British small sports car - light, cheap and uncomplicated. Fortunately for Mazda the general trend is for cars to be none of those things so the MX5 has more room to play with, but I hope they don't lose sight of how well received a small open-top RWD two-seater would be (look at the success of the ToyBaru BR86).

I was under the impression that the new gen MX-5 was supposed to go "back to the roots"? Have I gotten that totally wrong?

I've seen that as well, and I know increasing legislation will get in the way somewhat, but from the promotional material I get the feeling that the 4C was just as big an inspiration to the new car as older generation MX-5s.
