Does it matter if they race or not? Just seeing hypercars on race tracks is going to amaze and wow people. Maybe theyre not as quick around the track, but its something rare. If they have the Ferrari xx cars and such, its a bonus. If its popular, maybe then a real series can take place.

It's a glorified track day for perma-tanned Italians and fat Germans who don't want to rub shoulders with Darren from Croydon and his grubby Peugeot 205.
Sounds like fun, why not just leave it at that? |

I know that has times for both a GT car and a street hypercar ...the Top Gear test track: Aston Martin DBR9: 1:08.6 (2005 spec, modern GT3s were basically just as fast as this car this year at Spa) Ferrari FXX: 1:10.7 Pagani Huayra: 01:13.8 Lamborghini Sesto Elemento: 1:14.0 Lamborghini Aventador: 01:16.5 Bugatti Veyron Super Sport: 01:16.8 Gumpert Apollo S: 01:17.1 Bugatti Veyron 16.4: 01:18.3 |

As for GT3s being faster than 2005 GT1 DBR9 at Spa, the lap times are not comparatable due to circuit layout being very different from ten years ago (also the asphalt runoff shortcuts lead to better corner speeds) |

Ah you're right, I didn't consider the layout changes. I still think a GT3 would destroy any hypercar on everything but top speed though.

No times for the Porsche 918 or the Macca P1 at TG yet? You'd think that the hybrid power would really help them around that track.

No, there was supposed to be a special episode in the summer with 918 vs P1 vs LaFerrari (which didn't happen in the end). Perhaps in the next series (which starts in about a month's time).

Regarding 2005 GT1 vs GT today, Bahrain is probably the easiest comparison point to today as the layout is identical and all the asphalt parking lots were there a decade ago already. I don't think GT3s raced there this year, at least in major capacity, but since GTE is about the same exact speed as GT3:
1:54.184 - 2005 FIA GT Aston Martin DBR9 (Russian Age Racing) GT1 pole 1:58.137 - 2014 WEC Ferrari 458 Italia (AF Corse) GTE-PRO fastest single Q lap (2005 GT2 pole time was 2:01.468) Last edited by Deleted; 27 Nov 2014 at 16:57. |

Anybody have some - or a good guesstimate - on Nordschleife-only times for GT3s?
The 918's "fable lap" was a 6.57.... GT3s are one minute slower on the VLN layout including the better part of the GP-track (though skipping a little of the Nordschleife) |

Kevin Estre's pole lap for the Nurburgring 24h this year was estimated to be in the 6:25-6:30 bracket for the Nordschleife. If GT3 cars get any faster, they'll start worrying Bellof's mythical 6:11...

Meanwhile in 'actual' news
Van Gisbergen's return to Daytona 24 also hopes to spark opportunities for Le Mans and/or N24 http://www.speedcafe.com/2014/11/28/...gt-puzzle-svg/ Quote:

Yeah, he's the business.
I found this quote interesting: "With all V8 Supercars drivers shut out of the Bathurst 12 Hour GT race due to a date clash with the pre-season test, Van Gisbergen says he hopes to see more of his rivals try to head overseas next year." V8SC really not doing themselves any favours here. On another topic, Mr Goodwin of DSC has mentioned the possibility of a new privateer LMP1 in WEC or LM next year. Any ideas what this is about? |

At this stage, I'd think that any additional LMP1 privateer would run a customer Rebellion R-One. It would be really late to start with a new car for next year, and I see no reason to buy a customer CLM.

Think it's either SARD with customer R-One, or Oak has finally found a 'partner' for their previously ill fated coupe.

also because it doesn't exist any other lotus to be sold to customers... after fuji fire, kolles is already using the second chassis of the 2013 T128 as far am I aware. Anyway I agree, to buy or to lease an old r-one chassis is the only and realistic way for a team to enter in lmp1...

Mind you, it was early December last year when the Ligier-rebranding for Oak's LMP2 was announced, and in the S365 article couple of weeks ago it was said that Oak's full 2015 programme is announced at the end of November, which would perfectly fit timing of this weekend GG talked about.
Furthermore, I don't think Jacques Nicolet would've bothered complaining about removing the unnecessary 'Light' subclass from LMP1 unless he was planning on something. Though admittely we already know he really really wants to be on the grid with P1, just with proper partner (which his previous rebrand-partners ain't) that's so far's been lacking. And maybe he's found it. One can hope, although at the same time I wish it is SARD even with customer car. Preferably both Last edited by Deleted; 27 Nov 2014 at 19:07. |

Ferrari won't let them be together unless it's on their own test track. CAR mag managed to get them to let them take a P1 over their for this latest issue but that's the closest anyone's got.

Anyone got any idea what the 'big Blancpain' news Eve Hewitt tweeted about this morning is/will be?

I'm guessing this was the potential new LMP1 team that DSC was trailing?

LMP1 Rumour Unsubstantiated -- Happy to confirm yesterday that they plan to return to LMP2 -- "We are not looking at an LMP1 programme"
'Meh' It's not like this was the team I was hoping/expecting to hear P1 news anyway and I guess it's good for P2 and stuff, but it's mildly disappointing regardless |
