My stream went on and off. Those Cadillac are really fast. Yet again, they seemed to run around in formation just keeping everyone at bay. Also, anyone know if a Z4 will show up again? I wonder if the MB needs a BoP.

So he did hit the safety truck??? I don't remember hearing them say that,I thought he hit the wall.well hitting a safety vehicle is quite a bad thing to do under caution....

They mentioned it but thought he just spun and hit the barriers, not the safety vehicle.

Another comment: I think that the starting grid was way too compact. There was barely any room between rows. A tangle would have caused a massacre. The cars should have been spread along the frontstretch.

They said at the start of race 2 when the Aston stalled that they had to bunch them in to get the field to fit on the start straight, guess there wasn't huge amounts of space...

I'm not a fan of the starting location at belle isle, between this race and the tudor and Indy race it caused problems, confusions, and aborted starts.the starters stand is blind from before the right hand bend and some cars start accelerating and racing before the green flag is even seen.i know they have the crew on the radio but there's to mich temptation there to jump the start.and for PWC the cars are just packed together and is asking for a huge pile up if there's a stall.

I mentioned on another thread but there are issues with the Pirelli tire. During the broadcast, the non GT3 cars do better on the starts and restarts over the GT3 cars as the GT3 cars take time to get up to speed because of the tire. Hopefully this doesn't become the #1 issue as it is in IMSA because the Continental tire has the same behavior. We already have a premier series and I hope Pirelli addresses this issue.

It just seems odd the announcers would mention the tire issue, plus the Caddilacs seemed to pull out to a lead in a few laps and then just ran there. Anyone know what about the Acuras? They are not GT3. They were not at Detroit but will be running soon. They are AWD and that is now a different scenario. It seems that the benefit might be to build a non GT3 car for that series because they are not recognized by the FIA.
As for the tires, how can they not be an issue? The Cadillacs are not GT3 spec. I assume Mike has driven the Cadillac and can provide this info where the tire is not an issue? Not trying to start a fight but it does seem odd that some can run GT3 and others are not. Maybe make a specific tire just for the non GT3 cars? |

The Cadillac's are a full-factory team, unfortunately I don't think Mike has that kind of connections! The Acura's will act much like the Volvo's of yester-year. They will run hard and rely on cautions to keep their tires from falling off. Same thing with the Cadillac, although at Detroit the Cadillac's were so fast that they got a lead and ran to a pace. They had more in the tank if their tires fell off a bit (more power).
The fantastic thing about IMSA is that it puts a very high emphasis on keeping teams in the series by grandfathering cars (phase-out mentality). This is the reason the CTS-VR is still on track. Just like the Caddy's will work on their road course setup for next year, the GT3 cars will work on their street course setup. PWC is starting with a good quality tire and the cars adjust to it (some better than others on different tracks). TUSC starts with a terrible tire that 1/2 the field is unable to adjust to if they wanted to. |

I think you meant to write "SCCA" and not "IMSA" in first sentence?
