You think WEC LMP2 could decrease in 2018? Not sure about any new teams coming in. Maybe Manor will move to P1 with the Ginetta. To me it seems that ELMS (where you still get a Le Mans bit) or the IMSA Weathertech series will be a more attractive option if you are running an LMP2 car than the WEC would be at this point. Especially with just 5 races in 2018.

Doesn't the WEC grant an automatic LM entry? That alone is enough for some teams to consider it over the ELMS.

Yeah it's a WEC round, so all WEC full time entries get a Le Mans entry. Then add the automatic invitations, and the IMSA ones, and then anyone else the ACO wants to let in.

Gulf Racing 2nd car is definitely GTE Am if it happens - the reference to an additional GTE Pro car elsewhere is now looking considerably less likely

Hmm is it allowed for a bronze driver to enter lmp1? I seem to remember something about there being a restriction about this.

There is still that restriction, yes. I'm guessing there's been some behind-the-scenes discussions and Hedman will suddenly be Silver by the start of 2018.

Bold move! Good for them. Good for the ACO.
Yes, no Bronze drivers allowed in LMP1 as of now but that could easily change (SMP might bring one or two current Bronze guys as well) or drivers can be upgraded. Quite frankly Hedman might not have the right credentials for a Silver tag (yet) but this type of bravery needs a reward imo. Besides, the ACO would be foolish not to promote him to Silver (or change the P1 rating regs all together) as he is clearly the funding force behind the Dragonspeed project. And we all know the ACO needs all the P1 entrants they can get. Car choice will be interesting. Not a single word about their current P2s but I'd imagine the focus will be fully on the new adventure. |

Going for a new P1 one seems to make more sense then as the current P2s might be put up for sale (and if so, will probably sell fast), leased out or operated on behalf of someone else (possibly G-Drive).

This is great news! I wonder if this isn't the team that has rumored to be stepping up from lmp2? If that's the case, then it's possible that one of those teams are the purchasers of the Ginetta's? That would mean 2 teams moving up from Lmp2, which I think is great.
