Honda raced the NSX in both GT1 and GT2 in the mid nineties.

If the WEC think that a GTE class including hybrid technology is likely to attract the likes of mclaren, porsche, honda and Ferrari then expect that class to around in 2016

I haven't thought about it much but my immediate thought is that there won't be KERS rules for GTE for at least a couple years. FIA is stuill struggling to work out GTE/GT3 to the satisfaction of the various manufacturers, and there aren't yet enough ERS-equipped mass-produced sports cars to make it an immediate necessity. I expect case-by-case waivers for the next few years.

And in the unsurprising news of the day, Wayne Taylor Racing isn't going to Le Mans. It was idiotic of IMSA to give them an invite to begin with.

I don't see why. I hope Scuderia Corsa are guaranteed an entry, but so long as that's the case there's no harm in them giving it to an interested party in order for them to try to raise the budget.

Hey, it's now become a noble tradition for North American prototype entries to cancel their auto invites at the start of the year, brings a fuzzy cozy feeling!
But more excitingly, Scuderia Corsa is finalizing their GTE... AM... Ferrari... effo... |

Just because Taylor don't have an eligible car, any experience with an eligible car and thus a snowball's chance in hell, plus the invite comes with no financial incentive, don't think they didn't mean it. |

Nobody keeps him from racing a LMP2 in the states to gain more experience for a Le Mans venture. |

The IMSA invitation was issued in December, presumably they discussed it with WTR before that. That leaves just a few weeks before the Roar and the Rolex, the most important race on the schedule for WTR and probably the event that most favours the current DPs. There is also the position of Corvette to consider, jumping to a Nissan or HPD powered LM P2 car would mean that important revenue stream being lost by the team. The situation is not easy for the US teams, whose sponsors and partners are focussed on the North American market. I do know that WTR have made considerable efforts to race in Le Mans this year, sometimes you cannot make all the pieces fit. |

The Champion gets the invite period, doesn't matter if they use it or not.

If they did want to go LMP1, I would think their best would be to work with their F1 engine partner. Recall that Toyota's Le Mans program is being run by their old Germany based F1 team, not out of Japan. Mclaren should have the chassis and KERS expertise to make a competitive LMP1 car if they wanted, and Honda could supply the engine. Williams did the same thing for their then soon to be F1 engine supplier BMW with the V12 LMR. That would seem to be the easiest way to go about it. |

Has this actually been implemented?
