Wow here as well. Didn't see that one coming, and kind of a strangely worded way to announce it. Will be certainly different seeing the Lizards in another brand of car. Perhaps the 997 is not currently competitive enough for the team. We shall see I guess.

There is also the announcement that the 991 will have it's American debut in 2024, any ideas on the 2013 european/Wec debut.. Perhaps one or two races like the 997 at 24h of spa in 2006.(or was it 7)

"It’s impressive how the 911 GT3 RSR has developed from year to year. The lap times alone are astounding, because despite the restrictions imposed on us again and again by the regulations, the car just got faster every year,”-Jorg Berg....
This comment is laughable to say the least.. |

There should be some bargains over at the Lizards merchandise store.

This is brutal news. I hope 2013 is an aberration and they are back with the new RSR in '14.

My concern is that Porsche Motorsport will be grappling with both the new LMP1 project and the new 991 car in 2014. Two new programs run simultaneously is no easy task.

With this in mind they will probably expand to cater for the greater demands of an inhouse LMP1 project and also continuing on with their GT programmes. We mustnt forget Porsche Carrera and Supercups as that does bring in some good money for Porsche, I cant see them being done away with. I guess they might not bother with a new GT3 for FIA GT3 for the time being.

I hear you. At times their GT efforts seemed to suffer a bit when they were concentrating on the RS Spyder. |

During the race Hindy mentioned that Manthey would run the 991 RSR later on in 2013. I don't recall if he meant the WEC or not. The car could be developed in the VLN though, as VLN homologation is somewhat loose/non-existent.

Think he was referring to the WEC. It would make more sense to run it there and have Porsche guys in the WEC paddock and at those tracks.

961 being the replacement of the 911 would no doubt be the next GTE car. And, finally a Porsche that'll race in GTE that I can like!

It makes sense, there have long been rumours that the 997 would be the last GTE so we all assumed Cayman. This makes way more sense.

Regarding the racing I think they are committed to the 991 GT3 RSR for the foreseeable future, ie 2014-2018 Regarding Badgers comment, exactly explain to me what part of the car will be hand built.. It's based on the same platform as the next Audi R8, Lamborghini Gallardo, etc...so it's mass production all the way.. I wonder if it's such a good move for Porsche to launch such an expensive car, and I fear they'll undersell... Basically for Porsche to get people to buy cars that cost in the same pricerange as a Ferrari, they have to make it significantly faster then that same Ferrari. Love the idea of it though, and cant wait to for the competition to push ferrari to build even better cars... |
