Any news on whether Signatech Alpine will continue in LMP2? Alpine is a car manufacturer once again and manufacturers are not permitted in P2. Could they be the mystery Ginetta customer?

As far as I'm aware Alpine are not the mystery customer. |

So, are they going to do something to balance the hybrids with the non-hybrids? A Toyota parade at the front of the field is something the series could without.

With Alonso's luck at anything in recent times, that'll certainly happen.
OR... ... the two jinxes collide into obliteration and an Alonso-driven Toyota wins Le Mans in 2018 by also completing over 400 laps. |

Actually I didn't consider alonso in the equation.
I was thinking about an hybrid or engine failure. Or another random thumb up fonzie riding the pit lane |

Plenty of races Toyota just had bad luck. They don't just throw away races everytime, but all over that's how it's being portrayed. You can't even think up some of the weird stuff that happened to them. Next year I think the private lmp1's will be 850 or 830kg(?) and have over 700hp. I know they'll have more fuel and fuel flow allowed so their pit stops will be longer.

I doubt the increased power will make much of a difference, when the Toyota punches out of a corner with a 1000hp. They'll be long gone halfway through the straight. The only solution I really see is that they limit the power of the hybrid boost massively.

• From 2018/2019, and in the future, there will only be one category (and consequently one classification) in LMP1 • To make it as accessible as possible to join this category from the 2018-2019 season onwards, the level of performance of the current non-hybrid LMP1 regulations managed via equivalence of technologies will be aligned with the current LMP1 hybrid regulations. • Each competitor entered in LMP1 will have the same potential of performance independent of the type engine power used. Very clearly there will always be a slight advantage for the hybrid engine in terms of autonomy related to lower fuel consumption. • There will be no changes made to the current chassis regulations (only LMP1 chassis will be eligible) but to facilitate the access to LMP1, more choice and engine power options will be offered. Depending on the selected criteria, an Equivalence of Technology will be implemented between turbo compressed and normally aspirated engines (as done in the past between petrol and diesel). All these decisions will apply for the next two seasons." http://www.fiawec.com/en/news/new-lo...he-future/5354 |

BMW testing seems to be progressing well. 24 hour test at Paul Ricard completed.

Gerard Neveu also confirmed that the FIA WEC is likely return to the Bahrain International Circuit in the 2019/20 season, Neveu and circuit owner Sheik Salmand revealing the desire for the WEC to hold races in the Middle East once again after the 2018/19 ‘Super Season’, in which Bahrain didn’t make the cut.
http://www.dailysportscar.com/2017/1...er-season.html zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz I think 2019-20 then will be sth like Sep - Silverstone Oct - Fuji Nov - Shanghai Dec - Bahrain Mar - Sebring May - Spa Jun - Le Mans Or maybe February for that no-crowd race |

The new driver ratings are out. Quick question: DragonSpeed is going to LMP1 with Henrik Hedman and Ben Hanley. The thing is that Hedman is still rated as a bronze. I thought you had to be at least a silver to drive a LMP1. Or did the ACO/WEC change the rules?

They probably just transfer him into Silver, these grades have always been "anything goes" just like Willie Scott sings in Temple of Doom.

“They” had their chance to do so and didn’t. The only way Hedman becomes a silver now is to appeal his tentative 2018 bronze grade.

I'd like to drop that stupid sebring WEC part2.
Add Monza to the calendar would be great if sebring will be dropped for real, otherwise it would be required a huge DHL airplane or shipping effort to transfer private teams cars from florida to europe in a so short time. It was one of the reason that made ACO cut 12h sebring after 2012 WEC season if am I not wrong. |

IIRC they want 7 race calendar now, so we pretty much already know what circuits there will be now that Middle East moneybag event is -probably- back on plan (well unless they stupidly ditch Sebring again)
IMO these winter seasons shouldn't start until October. It's absurd if you have bigger gaps inside the season than you have between the seasons. |

Only reason Kristensen is gold is because of age (platinum rated driver over the age of 50). In '14 Emerson Fittipaldi was a bronze as a platinum rated driver over the age of 60, BTW.
Not that it matters, as Tom is retired from active competition. |

And I thought that the point for the winter season was one, to avoid as much as possible the saturation that NASCAR and F1 have over the middle of the year, and two, in the case of the ACO, have LM be the season finale?
IMO, it doesn't help much when you don't do much racing in the winter, but you can't fight the climate and mother nature. |
