Good stuff NAC, is there a link to the rest of them?
Colin Giltrip said yesterday during an interview, he's hoping they'll get the sponsorship so they can race Taupo again next year. Are there some issues there, apparently? Which way's the wind blowing? Pun intended. Top marks to NZL and Jonny Reid for the Sprint race pole. In front of a home crowd in those conditions, it was definitely a challenge for those guys getting around that track. Well done...good on ya'. Some surprises for me were GBR, India, and China, usually much stonger showings from that bunch. Portugal 6th for the Feature race, pretty exceptional as well. And I have to say, what a difference Robert Wickens has made for Canada. Doesn't seem to matter the circumstances, he just gets in and drives the thing. Atta' boy Bob. Okay, I got that out of the way. Quote:

I think the racing should be very exciting, although I'm not sure where the overtaking places are. I'd expect the Safety Car to be in use quite a bit, particularly if the conditions are as difficult as they were in qualifying. In theory, they should be better, because all the cars will be on track and circulating at the same time, which will overcome the problem of dust and dirt on the surface. For the record (courtesy of autosport.com):

GBR off the pace... Kerr is sturggling alot it looks of it.
Good to see Martin close to the points positions and also Chris in the action for Lebanon. Hopefully he can score a point or 2 in the race. |

I'll happily take it all back if it's on with the Feature race at 6 pm...
Edit: if that's what you're getting at. And maybe it is. Okay, I'll look forward to that then. Last edited by Last2LiftOff; 19 Jan 2008 at 23:36. |

No, there is too big a gap between the sprint and feature, so they show the sprint "as live" just before the feature.
It is a good system, although not for events in far off lands like NZ. |

The sprint race was done and dusted a couple hours ago, but I didn't post a 'spoiler'. Great effort by Jonny Reid.
Looking at the start of the feature race, I didn't see Jani move before the lights went out. The front row guys were just asleep! If you don't have pictures, follow live timing. |

If I remember correctly, L2LO, I think Canada was involved in a 4 car tangle at the first corner of the race. Great shame, but, as you say, things are looking better this time around.

Wonder what will happen to the teams under investigation? It could affect the race result dramatically.

Several feature race drivers seemed to be asleep, as all drivers should know that the lights can go out anywhere between 1 & 5 seconds. It looked as though the lights went out after just one second and some were probably still building up their revs.
Switzerland seemed to be harshly treated but at least they set the fastest lap. The top of the table has now tightened up with the three top teams on 82 and 80 points. That is great for the series. Taupo needs to try and sort out the dust problem, though it has always been a slippery circuit. I slid off on a cruising practice lap a few years ago. Not funny. Maybe the A1 GP will eventually move to the brand new circuit now being built just south of Auckland, and ready to run in exactly one year's time? Hampton Downs. |

That racing was in Taupo > I thought it was in the desert with the amount of dust!
They seriously need to replace the light weight crp in the gravel traps, it really ruined the weekend for me, nothing much going on in qual, races were stuffed and made the drivers look bad from it. |

There are some good reports on pitpass.com. Feature Race here. Post-race quotes here. I thought Adam Carroll had done very well to finish 5th, but didn't realise he had actually done so after starting 13th and having had to make an extra pit stop after an unavoidable collision with USA, which left him dead last. Sooner or later the guy just has to win a race. |
