To think, he cut his teeth with March and CART in the mid '80s; amazing stuff.

Newey to Ferrari?
Heard this on the street, say that it is true...
Newey was very coy when asked about it on Sky sports. He definitely received an offer of some sort. |

He probably gets offers every year from them. None of the teams would say no to having Newey

The other teams who could use Newey wouldn't be able to afford him. Ferrari seems desperate enough to pay anything...

Yes, he's likely filed restraining orders on the staff of the entire grid by now.
He no doubt gets regularly assaulted by F1 carrier pigeons at this stage. He may be contemplating it. He hasn't gone before because he wants to stay in England but with Ferrari being the preferred destination of many drivers to round off a perfect career in the past maybe he's thinking along the same lines. |

Just a little red wine fuelled pondering:
Currently Seb Vet appears pretty disillusioned (OK, Pi**ed Off) at Red Bull as he's no longer finding things easy. Newey likewise (despite his huge ears, sorry, just something I noticed this weekend) is also not finding it so easy nowadays. How would the lure if the Lira (to quote Monty Python) work in seducing the pair of them to Maranello to produce (hopefully for Ferrari) a Super Dream-Team (partnered by TBA)? Just a thought, please feel free to comment and expand... |

Whatever RBR's problems are; Renault; they would seem insignificant compared to Ferrari's! 3rd and 4th (started 15th) vs. 6th and 7th in Spain. Besides RBR is already providing a challenge for Newey and Vettel. |

At the time, Rahal was mighty pee'd off with Newey because they had been fairly close friends for a number of years, and he felt betrayed by his friend. So, Horner may be putting on a brave face, but he would be extremely naive if he honestly believed that Newey wouldn't jump ships at the drop of a hat. |

That's a little weak from Horner. Not particularly categorical. If Newey wants out, he'd go up and deal directly with Big Dietrich himself. That cuts out the middle-man. He wouldn't want a replay of the Rahal-Dennis love triangle which was a big mess for him personally.
That said, he's competed alongside Ferrari for some years, it isn't as romantic a team as it once was, the press in Italy are very unpleasant and there's often an ugly political atmosphere in that team. It might not be that inviting a prospect for him. |

I would agree with you here, I don't think that Adrian and Ferrari are a working match for one another in any shape or form!

When is it going to become appropriate to say "Ferrari is the new McLaren"?

http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/114054 It all hinges on what Adrian Newey means by foreseeable. I still think he'll go to Porsche. He's proven himself, more than once in F1 and in single seater, open wheel racing in general. |

Designers have a longer shelf life than drivers - so he's in no rush. He'll wind up designing boats at some point I think.

That was the March 83G, which won back to back in '83 and '84 but that was a long time ago and a lot has changed since then, regarding car construction and PUs.
