CATAWBA, NC (WBTV) - Former NASCAR driver Jeremy Mayfield was arrested Tuesday night on drug charges and detectives say they found methamphetamine, dozens of guns and nearly $100,000 in stolen goods from his home.

UPDATE 4: A confidential source told authorities that Jeremy Mayfield was stealing to support his drug habit. A search warrant obtained by Eyewitness News says the source knew specific details about reported break-ins and thefts and said Mayfield was involved in it all and that all the stolen property would be found at his home. On Monday, police seized hundreds of items -- mostly tools, metals and machinery -- worth $100,000. They also said they found 1.5 grams of meth and a meth pipe. The confidential source said he or she watched Mayfield purchase and consume meth "over 500 separate times," saying Mayfield stole to support his drug habit. I wonder when the drug use even started. Even if the anon source isn't telling the full truth, he's screwed either way.

I've heard from different people that have worked in Nascar that there is a lot more hard partying that goes on that the general public isn't aware of.

"gang" ha- i am sure it is some loosely organized idiots who all have prior records.
i can never understand why a racer of some talent would lean on this, and throw away life, a racing career, and millions for showing up never mind racing.
i have no sympathy even if he has an affliction, you blew it Mayfield.
