I know a group of guys that decided against this 8hr event and went to Spa to run the 12hr race there instead. It was cheaper (even though the race is longer), the whole race was streamed online so their family/friends could watch it anywhere (great way to convince your wife you are spending all of that money on hookers and blow) and there was lots more information available to potential renters well ahead of time as opposed to this 8hr race (some even wondered if it was going to happen at all). |

Yes Magnus will this weekend be running as Audi Sport Team Magnus, and as a full factory supported team for the weekend they must run the livery! I know WRT are running as a privateer this weekend, not sure if Land have factory backing and livery for the weekend or not Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

One more car has dropped out (M1 GT Racing Audi), so down to 19 cars. Land paced practice today- different chassis this weekend but their Petit-winning car is in the paddock.

I wonder if this is streamed on GT1World after all... qualifying and superpole streams are already listed, but the race isn't (unrelated GT4 and GT Asia events on Sunday are still listed and usuallly all Blancpain events are listed beforehand, so by all accounts this race should be listed by now too).
Qualifying: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2WIURco6VJI Superpole: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jxy3cKCbo4U Another worrying thing is that everytime CBS Sports showed a Pirelli WC race (whether live or tape-delayed), there was no live stream for that race. Land and Magnus make it an all Audi front row, followed by Wright, WRT and KPAX: http://sportscar365.com/world-challe...monterey-pole/

I forgot that although the stream is hosted by Blancpain, we have an American TV director. So rather than watch the race, let's have a montage of hills around the area.
Whilst that was happening we appear to have already a lost #99 GT4 Aston. No yellow flags on display, oddly. Edit: FCY. |

Brilliant restart by Parente, up to second. Land were checking out before the FCY.

As I'm not in the US I don't know if this works or not, or if it's related to CBS -

They don't work in U.S. Also, motortrendondemand not seeming to work either.

Thankfully this will not be a problem with the 24 hours of COTA Creventic event which looks like is going to be a much better race. |

Congrats to Magnus Racing! What a victory! Those Audi's were certainly the class of the field today.
So........ What's everybody's view on the way Land and WRT gamed the system on the last pitstop? Clever exploitation of a mistake in the SRO rulebook....Or a blatant disregard for the spirit of the event that showed a lack of respect for their fellow competitors and for us fans. Obviously the ideal solution would be proper pitstops without a minimum time, but sadly that is not viable for many of the teams. |

SRO created this problem by having over complex pit regulations. They themselves have used it to penalise teams that appear to have done nothing wrong before. So it was only a matter of time until a team used it the other way. SROs attempt to make simple rules has quite often made them hard to understand and balance. It's something WRT have complained about in Blancpain. Not to excuse what the teams did - but is it not a bit silly that we're looking at the IGTC being marketing as a sort of World Championship, and we have minimum pit stop times? For PWC and the Pro/Am and Am classes in Blancpain sure, but for the (apparently) top GT racing series in the world? Last edited by Akrapovic; 16 Oct 2017 at 07:13. |

I love that there were crew members standing on the hot side of the pit wall waiting for their car to come to a stop, instead of being behind the wall.
Simply because the SRO didn't want to change a rule because most American tracks have pit walls. |

Also, if you think those pit stops are nuts, you will have coronary if you ever watch a Creventic race (which is streamed right on their site and no voodoo dance you got to do to get it). No minimum pit time but no refueling in the pits. You got to leave pit road and go to the gas pumps. Then when you recover from that coronary, you'll have another one because they don't use a dry break, just a regular old nozzle like you do in your street car. Plus if your car takes X amount of liters and you pump more than that into the tank you are in trouble. There's a guy standing there with a clip board and writes down the car number and how many liters you pumped. Plus under a FCY or Code 60, only allowed to pump in half the amount of fuel. Best part is, how many liters you pumped, that's all you pay for.
What also is crazy, 4 guys are allowed to work on the car but you must wear a yellow safety jacket. No firesuit and no helmet required. |

The no fire suit rule in pitlane could be explained because there's no refueling going on but the no helmets??? Crazy indeed, especially with 50-60 cars participating. |

Years ago I always wore a bandanna around my face with a headsock over it for a tire change because back then, asbestos brake pads were banned for street cars but still used in racing. Back then pads never lasted like they do today thus it was a cloud of black soot when you hit the air gun. A few years ago, I calculated that the amount of pit stops that they do in the top three series in NASCAR was around 4X what every other series I could think of on the planet. They do it about as wrong as can be (by sportscar standards) and you'd think there would be at least 10 dead crew and 50 fires per year. Somehow, they can do it fast, with 5 lug wheels, a floor jack and two 11 gallon dump cans along with 30-35 other cars doing the same thing at the same time. Yet in sportscar racing, we are so formal with a bazillion rules and still manage to screw it up. |
