British Grands Prix 1973-1980 on ESPN Classics
As the title says, ESPN Classics are showing these old races (except 1976's which was not filmed.)
I thought they were going to be shown in full though. What I've seen so far are quite heavily edited, going from lap 1 to lap 10 in a few minutes for example. |

All the programmes are 30 minutes, apart from one year which is one hour.

That's a pity. If they're going to do something like that, they should do it in full.

Was about to post this was on! Watching it now, great stuff - so different to what I'm used to. Any idea why 76 wasn't filmed?
It would be nice if they did it in full but it said earlier they do a "sports day" so guess maybe it's a time issue. Am grateful to be able to watch even half an hour having not seen it before. |

Something to do with the BBC not being happy about Durex sponsorship on Alan Jones's car.
Apparantly contraception is a bad thing. |

There's also Jackie Stewart programmes on all day and currently showing the Millie Miglia (spelling apologies in advance!).

Was utterly brilliant actually, just finished qwatching from about 2 o clock this afternoon!!
What intereated me actually was the lack of actualt racing in reality, F1 is no huge way better now than it was then, yes there were more cars and a chaeaper way to get into the sport but the show wasnt that mjuch better! One great bit was I think the 74 race at Silverstone, Graham Hill had retired his Embassy car and was in the commentary with Raymond Baxter (RIP), and he was talking about it being hard to overtake because of the aerodynamic effect of following someone!! Seems even in the early days of wings the same problems still apply! But the Stewart programmes was great, Jackie came across just so well, and there were a few really touching bits with him and Ken. |

I had seen the first two programmes in the Stewart series but it was the first I had seen the later two looking at the set up of Stewart Grand Prix etc, very interesting. Watched the IRL programme too.
Never realised how beautiful John Watson's 77 Brabham Alfa was though! |

Imagine that last sentence without "'s 77 Brabham Alfa".
I have yet to watch the JYS programme. Is it the same series that was on the beeb a few years ago? |

I can't tell you I'm afraid Adam as didn't watch it then, can tell you bits and pieces that are in it but none are major enough to jog your memory I don't think.
If it isn't the same series, it's well worth watching. |

er, I remember that he sat at a table, presumably at home, and told a story about how he lied to his mother.

The barn thing rings a bell. I guess the concept of lying to your mother is completely alien to Suze.
I suppose I could actually watch it... |

I suppose you could...!
Didn't watch every episode and lying to his mother wasn't something I remembered. Of course I've never lied to mine |

He was in lots of locations. They were Mark Stewart produced programmes.
His mother hated the idea of him racing and initially any races he entered were under a different name. Last edited by touringlegend; 29 Dec 2006 at 22:33. |

Just watched that Andretti: Road To Indy programme.
What is the point? That programme in isolation is meaningless! |

I have the John Player GP programme of British GP '76, which is good. I seem to remember James getting irate at Murray on the grid!
