Well give it a couple of years and we may well see a metallic blue 1970 Mustang sporting no less than a 610ci all Aluminium SVO powerplant tearing around Pukekohe. This is a project of my fathers which has been started with the shell being acid dipped , caged and sprayed and the engine still sitting in the crate from when it was imported from the states in the late 90's.If money grew off trees this project would have been completed many moons ago I can assure you...

Now I may be wrong by Simon don't you hold the lap record for all comers at Puke with a 53 in a Formula Holden, so you guys are trying to beat that lap in a saloon, very impressive. I belive that the sedan record is held by Mr Scott in the mentioned Corvette and he held the record previously in the Merkur so how long has Kayne held the saloon car record, must be at least 15 years???
Great to see these cars but may I ask about how much you would have to spend to buy a car able to to do these times. Also do they have a TV package shown on TV in NZ. |

From memory I did a 51 in the Formula Holden in Qualy and lowish 52s in the race. To get a saloon car to that pace would be a big ask, but they are really getting quick now.
Nick was going to qualify, but with the bad weather and a new rear wing, we thought it was more prudent for the inexperienced Nick to sit it out... As for the race, with all the delays pushing the time back, he could not wait around as he was the Best Man at a wedding. |

I hope that TVR is more reliable than the road going version.

JohnM575, the motive behind Evo's comment is the continuation of a petty school yard type dislike for Mr Petch. It's nothing more than a bait looking for a bite....which it doesn't deserve.

Simon thanks for your answers should be interesting to see what this car is ultimately able to do,
The Mekur I believe went off shore (back to the states) but Mr Petch would be able to confirm this. In all the talk about lap times I believe the Best lap for a group A car was a high 57 by a 2.5 litre BMW M3 so with all the power that these cars are developing I'm sure that quicker times are Possible But in saying this I put all lap time talk in one catergory Bul****t till the time comes up on the offical time sheet. But would love to see a little wager on First Saloon car into the 53's I remember way back a wager on the first Saloon to break the magic Minute but I'm sure other forum members and there Dads could shed more light on it. |

Sorry Evo , but you have just lost a lot of respect from me after these last couple of posts. I used to respect the way you battled for TKR in the face of a fair amount of flak. You have done quite a lot of belittling of your own on here in regards to Mark Petch and Tasman and also grandstanded the achievments of TKR. I suggest you should go look in the mirror Evo. |

we loved that car, however a very wealthy American collector, hunted the car down, and paid me more than I paid Jack Roush for the car in the first place! Meanwhile it's had a total restoration, and will run later this year in a new Gentleman's Series for pre91 TransAm cars. Scott Pruett won the 19887 TransAm championship in Chassis 4 ["ole yellow" as the team called it because it was the only car Jack Roush built with a chassis painted in Yellow] Its still Scooters all time favorite car. I also understand that they are trying to get Scott Pruett back in the car, for promotional purposes, and if thats the case I would certainly be keen to go up to the cars first run back on American soil. Pete Halsmer, of Mazda fame, went on to win the 1988 IMSA championship [after they banned Turbo's in TransAm] in the same car. Jack put it away in his collection, untill Ford New Zealand supported an approach to Dearborn over borrowing the car. This eventually led to MPM buying the car, winning 2 New Zealand Championships in it , before competitor pressure, saw Turbo's also outlawed in TraNZam New Zealand. Cheers, Mark Petch.
