JPM to 7th by Newman. He now has clear racetrack in front of him as over six seconds separate him from the trio of Ambrose (4th), Hamlin, and Kurt Busch. This will give us the best indication of how much speed the #42 has. Montoya has said the car is generally good but he needs some more forward bite for the slow corners.

Yup that is a great angle! Pit stops have begun and Edwards is all over Johnson for the lead now.

Damn, JPM stalled leaving the pits but caution is out. This is a timely caution for JPM and other who had pitted, including Kyle Busch and Jeff Burton, as they will pass everyone who pits under the yellow, which will include the top six drivers.

What a day to stall it for the first time. Lucky break though.
Ragan appears to have mashed it. |

JPM second behind Biffle after the pit stop sequence (stalling cost him a spot to Biffle).

I suppose Kyle will be haring away whilst those behind conserve a little fuel.
Stewart is probably favourite as of now. |

What is going on with Jeff Gordon? He is mired in 21st and has actually lost a few positions since the restart.

Truex has an intermittent miss in his engine. Carpentier is 28th on a road course. AJ had bad luck but was also slow. Franchitti didn't even make the race. Could this spell the end for some of these drivers? If they can't run well at Sonoma where can they? This shows how impressive JPM's performance at NASCAR's road courses are. It takes more than just road racing experience to perform well in a NASCAR road race (not that none of the ringers are in the top 10 except for Ambrose).

Ambrose passes R. Gordon, Harvick, and Burton to move up to 7th. He is the fastest car on the track.

Very caution free for a Sonoma race, which is good to see.

Tell you what - they really don't know how to film a road course race these NASCAR people.

To be fair, it is quite hard. There is usually action across the board.
Quite different to directing the Magny Cours GP for example! |

Jeff Burton, who was running 8th, busted for speeding on pit road. He will have to serve a pass through penalty.

A driver of Juan Pablo's calibre finding NASCAR tough demonstrates the strength of the field to the world.
