The TV issue does make it a new ball game however. Ch 7 don't want to do the Champ Cars, and the Champ Cars is what makes it interesting to the government, and the V8s is what makes it interesting to the Gold Coast because of bums on seats, and the corresponding effect of the economy.

All that having been said, the fallout between Foxtel and Ch.7 puts all telecasts in doubt. While Cochrane continues to claim loudly he has an ironclad contract, that merely guarantees VESA a nice financial settlement if 7 renegs does it not? I'd assume 7's financial exposure with the VESA is the lesser of two evils than with the AFL if it came to a battle of contracts...

Azza500 has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
have to agree with you in some respects but i dont think the tv coverage will affect it to much im sure the local government use the event to promote the coast in the long term for tourism not just one weekend as long as it gets some overseas coverage ie Us,Nz,Uk dont think it will mater as for other peoples arguement about sponsor dollars for the event hasnt gillette and lexmark sponsoring the event in the past been based on Champcars not the v8s

Well I can see all of this "fraca" ending the cosy fantasy it was a "Champcar" weekend that stretched for 4 days. That is what I was getting in the US.

I think it would have a serious effect. Look at the signage at the event:
- Network Video
- Courier Mail
- Cars Guide
- Bob Jane T-Marts
- Falken
- VB
- Gilette (if is was about Champ Car why is it the Gillette V8 challenge?)
- WPS (as opposed to the omnipresent Team Australia signage)
- Fish Liquor
- WoW

All these are local sponsors that see the value in the extensive local TV broadcast - 11 hours down to 3 would never be good.

Is it 7 that dont want to show CC at Indy, or is it Vesa saying they are only going to film the v8s ?

dont you mean was the gillette v8 challenge now lexmark indy and the likes of vb(fosters group) and wps needing international exposure for their product not local(aus) as for the other sponsors they are hardly visible on tv coverage or photography of the event so i would agree that they are for local market with the marketing strategy targeting people attending the event not watching at home on tv

I understand that the plan for Townsville WAS a permanent multi use facility (driver training being the main use) that would be extended each year for the V8 Supercar race. Quite a clever idea as the cost of the permanent facility would not be as high as a full length circuit but could be used as the core part of a full length track. Maybe the plans changed or is everyone here just making assumptions that it was a street race?

I would have thought Mr Ireland would have been around long enough and be smart enough to know that a Street circuit would not be the best option for the north.

Who cares anyway. They won't get me to go to a street race.

These guys are like a dog with a bone. Let it go already.

Not exactly sure why the Feds would poor money into a one off Queensland event.
