It seems like there are going to be lineup changes at almost every team this off-season. And of all teams at this time, Dale Coyne Racing is looking like the most stable, which is great from them as they performed well in spite of all the havoc the team had to face this past season. Both Sebastien Bourdais and 2017 Rookie of the Year Ed Jones are expected to return, though not confirmed yet.
At Penske, there are question marks over the #3 car. At Ganassi, they closed up the shops of #8 and #83, so the whole B-team is gone. That was quite a shocker. At Andretti, reigning Indy 500 champion Takuma Sato has chosen to leave, in spite of having been a very good fit with the team. Rookie Zach Veach is going to have to fill some large shoes there. Bryan Herta Autosport will be continuing its fruitful cooperation with Andretti Autosport. AJ Foyt Racing is eyeing Tony Kanaan. Will he join the Team's Waller, TX, based #14 team or the Indianapolis based #4 team? That remains to be seen. Mikhail Aleshin unfortunately did not continue his promising 2016 form into this past season and he was dropped from Schmidt Peterson Motorsports. His replacement in the #7 is still to be determined. At Ed Carpenter Racing, former IndyLights champion Spencer Pigot moves up to the full-season ride #21 after JR Hildebrand had a rough year in that car involving a new and unproven engineering team that came from sports cars, having to sit out one race due to a broken hand Long Beach and podium finishes on ovals. The "road course specialist" to alternate with team owner Carpenter in the #20 still needs to be found. Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing has Graham Rahal returning and Takuma Sato joining him. Given the strong showings of both drivers in recent years, that could lead to Team Rahal re-joining the teams of Penske, Ganassi and Andretti in the "Big 4". New team Harding Racing which showed lots of promise this year at Indy and scored very impressive Top 5 result at Texas Motor Speedway this year, are expected to join the grid full time with driver Gabby Chaves. Also, Carlin Racing's plans of moving up to IndyCar from IndyLights are very much looking to come to fruition next year, as longtime Carlin cohort Max Chilton is a free agent at this time and has been linked again with the team that his main sponsor owns a stake in. This year's Indy 500-only entrants Michael Shank Racing, Juncos Racing and Dreyer & Reinbold Racing are likely to return in that capacity, and it remains to be seen if more appearances might happen during the season. That's the current status of this silly season from a teams perspective. Have I missed anything? Do you have any additions? |

Santiago Urrutia is negotiating with two teams. He wants a multi-year deal. |

Ganassi did quite well for years with just 2 cars. Jettisoning underperforming pay drivers (Chilton, Kimball) is a good idea, nobody but Dixon was a factor this year at the team.

I think the reality is - running 4 cars is really tough and dilutes your strength. Not everyone can be Penske I guess |

Hélio will switch to IMSA, and do the Indy 500 only.

I lost interest in Indycar years ago. But I am as big of a sportscar fan as ever now. It is no demotion for Helio CastroNeves nor Juan Pablo Montoya. |

Tony Kanaan signes a multi-year contract with AJ Foyt Racing from 2018. That's Multi-year.

CGR...?
Hi all - I haven't been around here for a while so I apologize if I've missed posts on this topic. Has there been any hint at all who might be joining Scott Dixon at Ganassi? Kanaan is at Foyt, and I thought I heard that Kimball and Chilton were both done(?). Dixon's the only IndyCar driver shown on the CGR website right now.
Anything? Is Chip's IndyCar budget scuttled with the absence of Target? Were those pay drivers costing too much somehow (how?)? Am I asking too many silly questions? Thanks. |

I think this hasn't been linked here before. DTM driver Robert Wickens joins Schmidt Peterson Motorsports.
https://www.motorsport.com/indycar/n...terson-966775/ That's a good news. There has been a demand for younger drivers. |

I think he’s made the right choice, he clearly has talent and I’m sure he’ll take to Indycars like the proverbial duck to water

Brendon Hartley is believed to join Ganassi, but nothing is confirmed.

Felix Rosenqvist was first choice, and the attraction was mutual, but his Formula E ride for next year bars him from making a jump to IndyCar until 2019. Not sure if Chip will have the money then... Chip's budget has decreased significantly. Charlie Kimball probably could have stayed at Ganassi had his budget from Novo Nordisk not been decreased for 2018. Chilton was going through an ugly growth spurt this past season, and frustration mounted on both his sides, and so the split was mutual. Those two both want to stay in IndyCar, so the natural assumption is they return as teammates, this time with Carlin, which has aspirations to expand into IndyCar. Chris |

I would have thought that Ganassi would be looking at hinchcliffe if hartley’s f1 bound, but he’s confirmed at spm now along with Robert Wickens. Could Ganassi e.g. retain kimball for the second car? It’s hardly exciting but he’d at least pay some bills.

Thanks guys. I'd missed the Hartley and Rosenqvist rumours. I figured CGR was in full-on money save mode with the pulling of Kanaan and Chilton off track late last season. If all the discussions go nowhere, I wonder how Scott Dixon will fare if he's on a one-car team? Would have seemed unthinkable not that long ago.

Chilton is a pay driver, so firing him wasn't money saving.
Anyway, Ganassi is short on sponsors. |

Hartley's now looking to F1 in 2018, so I think we may have to wait a while. Personally I think he's a win-win situation over whether he goes to F1 or Indycars

Of course, the Ganassi seat fell to him, he was second choice there. Chris |

Never heard of him before, but I like drivers coming from nowhere to IndyCar.
And I like new teams in IndyCar. |

Jumping from F4 to IndyCar is ridiculous. Leguizamón should do at least a year in Indy Lights.
