Porsche really made an error here.

What a strange GT "Q"ing session!! Seems very disjointed.

I really hope that Porsche and the ACO/FIA come to an agreement on this apparent violation. It would be a shame if the field became nothing but Ferraris in GT.

alas no time from the Spyker... anyone know what happened?
Edit from twitter: The Spyker Squadron car will start from the back of the grid tomorrow after not finding enough time to retrofit the engine for qualifying. |

Where can be found the rules regarding the case with Porsche ?
If they are really in a violation it would be awful for someone like them. Really disappointing... |

Here Art.# 5.2 - Modifications : pg. #9 5.2.1 – Cylinder block, cylinder head(s), valve angles, firing order, number and location of camshafts : they must remain original, as they are fitted on the series vehicle. 5.2.2 - The adding of material to the cylinder block or cylinder head(s) is not permitted. Intake and exhaust manifolds are free but they must be supported on the original cylinder head gasket face. L.P. |

It just occured to me how spread out the grid looks without an R15 or 908 lockout .
Best starting grid in ages !!! |

But 5.2.3 reads as follows: 5.2.3 – Cylinder heads may be modified by machining, provided that the original part remains identifiable. The valve tappet guides may be fitted with sleeves if not originally. The cylinder block may be modified by machining : • for the modification of the bore or for sleeving if the original block is not fitted with sleeves. • Below the horizontal plane passing through the axle of the crankshaft bearings for the mounting of the dry sump. The oil sump is free and may include the crankshaft bearing caps. So now, I'm confused! |

from the new gt3 "The cylinder cases are made of a light alloy featuring aluminum, with Nikasil®-coated liners. For improved efficiency, including better fuel economy, the engine's compression ratio was raised to 12.0:1." I guess those aluminium nikasil liners were not strong enough so they put in steel ones wich is against the rules, the parts must remain original |

I'm not sure that that is a "sleeve".
There is no need to "sleeve" the normal GT3 as it is not bored out to 4.0L |

A liner, is a sleeve! I think, and this is just supposition as we do not have a clear picture yet, that we are dealing with the part in question not being included in the homologation. But we will need to see exactly what the situation is before we know which way to jump on this. That being said, it does seem that there is something hinky going on with the engine or there would not be a row about it!!

Porsche are masters in finding loopholes, I am pretty confident that this is the case here as well...
