hmm, don't think it's worth using grosjean as an example. he was rebuilding his reputation, self esteem and career, so he was coming from a totally different place. but you're right in principle, it didn't do him any harm. whether it does anyone any significant benefit is another matter. i'm interested to see what varhaug does with the project, since he's coming from a rubbish gp2 year that took a bit of momentum away.

I've changed the title so it is now the season thread...
I think it's always difficult for anyone to loook goood in a series where there's only limited entries and questionable talent on the roster. However this series has at least 4 half decent pedallers, one of them very, very good imo and he will be a decent benchmark for the entrants. |

I don't think it's fair to say that it's not a feeder series. It is establishing itself as below GP2/FR 3.5 but around the same level or higher as F2, F3 or GP3. For instance, of last year's drivers, 4 possibly 5 will be going to GP2 (Onidi, Crestani, Haryanto, Lancaster and possibly Ceccon), 1 is going to FR 3.5 (Venturini).

Sirotkin looks a fantastic prospect at 16 years of age.

Yep, obviously stalling in race 1 pretty much screwed up his week-end, but he still made a great recovery drive in race 2. It will be interresting to see what he can do in a mistake-free week-end. The kid has an awesome pace considering his age and experience.

another good signing: sten pentus is joining in from the next round:
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/98430 he knows his backside from his elbow in noisy single seaters so it'll be fascinating to see how he does. |

And joint championship leaders PÃ¥l Varhaug and Adrian Quaife-Hobbs (as well as AQ-H's team-mate Victor Guerin) have signed up for the whole season after previously having deals for Monza only.
EDIT: and Chris van der Drift will continue with Manor-MP Motorsport for another round, seems he's on a race by race deal. Last edited by kerrmanningjarv; 27 Mar 2012 at 18:30. |

In addition to the moves already mentioned, Yann Cunha (who will race FR3.5 this year) is driving for Ombra Racing this weekend alongside GP2 "star" Giancarlo Serenelli, replacing Adderly Fong, while Matteo Beretta (usurped by Sten Pentus at Virtuosi UK) and gentleman driver Peter Milavec will race for Zele Racing who ran a sole entry for Giacomo Ricci at Monza. obviously off topic, for which i will reprimand myself suitably, but isn't this the kind of driver f2 is supposed to be attracting? or are they not that daft and they'd rather do bits and bobs here and there where they can afford it with autogp?

I'm sure you don't mean all the drivers are very very average....Van der Drift is by no means an average driver, if he had a rich father he would be in F1 by now. Thing is with him he has to fund all his drives and still live.

Looks as though Hobbs is in a good position for the championship going by what i've seen of him so far. Fingers crossed he can continue keeping his nose clean and we might see him in a good GP2 team next year.

I would rather they just used the first or second generation GP2 car.

Maybe Coloni has bought the A1GP "Ferraris". Would be a pretty nice car with the Zytek Auto GP / FR3.4h engine...
