I'd say these sprint twiligt/night races would work best if they were supporting some larger event on Friday or Saturday evening. Like Aussie GTs for @ Adelaide 500 in the past

Or French Carrera Cup @ Pau Grand Prix

Or even Canadian Touring Cars at Trois-Rivieres

Regarding Durham, I have lived here for more than a decade, but I am also likely a poor tour guide.

Your info says you are from SC, so I assume you are able to find plenty of "southern culture" so I will likely skip that type of stuff. It also depends upon what you consider "fun". Anyhow, here are some suggestions...

Try to catch a Durham Bulls game. I think they have a home game Friday evening....

http://www.milb.com/index.jsp?sid=t234

Historic Brightleaf Square Area is nice...

http://www.historicbrightleaf.com/

The American Tobacco Campus is also nice and it is right next to the Bulls ballpark...

http://www.americantobaccohistoricdistrict.com/

Here is the online visitors info. It has other suggestions if mine are not up your alley...

http://www.durham-nc.com/

You can also make a very quick trip south to Chapel Hill. Franklin St near UNC campus can be fun...

I quickly looked through some of the "dining" options listed on the Durham and Chapel Hill visitors sites... Some names that jumps out at me...

Durham

Nana's
Mellow Mushroom
Tyler's Taproom
The Pit

Chapel Hill

Crook's Corner
Mama Dips
Carolina Brewery
Il Palio Ristorante

You can also look over the yelp reviews.

Not that many care of PC, but looks as if IMSA is learning something from Kansas

The two-hour and 45-minute GTLM/GTD feature, meanwhile, will take place Sunday at 4 p.m. ET, live on FOX Sports 1.
That being said, if it was PC/Lites only weekend it's obvious there would be no coverage whatsoever again... of CTSCC either

That's quite packed weekend actually in terms of broadcasted coverage
PC/Lites Qualifying
GTLM/GTD Qualifying
GS/ST Race
PC/Lites Race 1
PC/Lites Race 2
GTLM/GTD Race

It's not like IMSA Lites ever usually gets coverage either. I recall them having some Motors TV delayed highlights and short 30 second glimpses in the ALMS broadcasts in the past but that's it

Ryan Eversly just tweeted that he will be hosting the live imsa stream of the practice sessions today. I have to say I didn't know there was practice coverage. Not sure if by stream he means audio or video.

Fanschoice.TV doesn't list anything until qualifying on Saturday, so if practice is being streamed, it must be on IMSA.com.

Or MRN perhaps? Would be nice if this info was laid out in the IMSA emails about where to watch.

If the repave is worth a few seconds, the PCs are going to have to pick it up, or be outshone, on pace, by the GTLMs. Good thing they're not running at the same time this weekend.

the reason they dont do night races on dark tracks is because it would be awful for tv audiences.

From Sportscar365:

Magnussen, Lietz Involved in Major Accident at VIR

"Both the No. 3 Corvette C7.R of Jan Magnussen and No. 911 Porsche 911 RSR of Richard Lietz reportedly went off in Turn 1 on oil laid down by another car.

The two cars made heavy impact with each other near the barriers, which brought the 90-minute practice session to an early end.

Lietz, who is awake and alert, is being transported to a local hospital, while Magnussen remains in the track medical center, with a further update to follow from IMSA."

The photo of #911 shows a heavy impact on the drivers side, hope Richard and Jan are OK.

This has been a REALLY lousy day for GTs already. Enge went for an unplanned flight in his Lamborghini at Slovakia Ring earlier.

The article says Lietz was "awake and alert", so that's certainly a good indication, at least.

What you call awful I call awesome... floodlights are unnecessary for sportscars. Maybe some on start/finish straight and bigger viewing areas but that's it

Jan Magnussen, driver of the #3, has been evaluated and released from the infield care center w/ further monitoring needed.

Incident was caused by oil on track so no blame for the circuit or drivers.

Is T&S being funky, or are they disallowing times for getting all four off the track?

EDIT: Well, the audio for the stream has died, but I'm at least still getting picture.

#3 is in pit lane for Qing. Great job by Corvette Racing getting it repaired in such a short time.

No sound (which isn't terrible, considering the commentators weren't talking about the on-track action anyways), and now the visual is gone.

Typical..
