obvious track side security issues. not the right thread but as BE/FOM squeeze the local venues for more and more money its unsurprising that the budgets for security dont or cant increase to reflect the needs of the modern world.

sure there is since Carlos could not close the gap to Max and therefore also was not fast enough to catch Perez.

There is another possible scenario here. Max was unable to pass Perez, Carlos caught both, but stayed back from his team mate in order that Max could concentrate on the Force India without having to keep an eye on his mirrors. Had Sainz tagged on to Verstappen's car with intent to pass, neither would have made it through.

Sainz drove with the team in mind, Max with just himself. Had the situation been reversed I have little doubt that Max would have been hassling his team mate.

Just another explanation, who can tell which is right?

I prefer to think of myself as a motor sport enthusiast, someone with a deep feeling for the history, and ethos of the sport.
I must admit that the modern version lacks a lot of the 'ethos' for me, it is the view from a distant past.

I don't think Max should get it, because he was given his lap back. It's not like he actually achieved that by driving a full lap ahead of his team mate. Safety Cars are wonderful.

Vettel gets the vote because frankly, he was the best by a significant margin.

Well, some of our Dutch colleagues are Verstappen-bots. They've worshipped that clan since the 90s and can get a little bit delirious on occasion. Guess, we just have to step aside that.

Max sounded like a child when he rasped "No!" But the reality is that's what these kids do. They are irreverent from an impertinent age and it's often such types that wind up being the achievers.

What strikes me here isn't Max. It's that the control of STR brass over their drivers isn't that strong. They bungled an order, a little scheme the wide eyed STR people thought Verstappen would obey. Messy stuff and an indictment of the team really.

I wear my fathers old watch, it was bought in 1961, I have to wind it up every day. It gets to be a habit.

well I love it when a driver says no to the team . control freaks abound .
