They have probably got a different decibel range from F1 Chris At a guess of course.

It's a different pitch. Even the turbine-powered tractors are almost bearable, but a modern F1 V-10 goes right through you.

BAR engines sound more unpleasant than the others, but they're all pretty grim.

I adore a V-16 BRM up close. I'll stick my head as near as possible to a racing Ferrari flat-12. I've stood under a Vulcan bomber doing a tailstand, all four Olympus engines on reheat. Heck, I've been inches from the speakers at a Motorhead concert and I've loved them all.

But I might just be bringing earplugs for the next test session.

Some engines really grate - last years Arrows was horrible. This year's Minardi is fabulous because it has slightly lower power so it doesn't screech as much.

Oh god they all sound brilliant...

I've been up close to ten speakers wide and ten speakers high at Nottinghill Carnival. Does that come close?

Never heard an F1 car..?
Lorna, you and me both...

Mind you, does Johnny Herbert's Lotus at a Brands 'Free Race Day' count? No. I didn't think so...

But of course I'll be there, my dear, I have a Ten-Tenths cap to wear!

What do you mean "I wouldn't bloody know. I wasn't there"? How am I supposed to know which meetings you go to?

I'm sure the gang will tell you it's not many. I have graced them with my presence a little more this year.

Hark at you, Minardi Fan. Who's the person who cunningly changed out of Minardi plumage so I wouldn't spot him at the last test day?

I have had the honour of meeting Lorna, and I look forward to doing so again. You sir, if I may say so, are cruising for a tweak, for being so ungallant.

Minardi Fan - you better watch your arse at Silverstone bloke - i'd be scared if I were you bud.

F1 engines ? I was really disappointed to hear them at the GP this year - they sound like absolute dogshyte to be totally blunt If you want to listen to a decent engine tone, you should have got yourself along to the ALMS round at Silverstone earlier this year - superb!

Hey, I was wearing the fleece... for a while...

Ok, this time I PROMISE I will be fully clobbered out in Minardi gear.

And I heartily apologise to the fair Lorna...

I have to say that last year's F1 engines were nicer sounding than this year's.

Hearing a '99 Minardi through the Ardennes Forest...

Now THAT'S magic.

So...

Who's going?
Are we arriving at 10 am?
Where are we to meet?
Do I bring sarnies? (As well as Jelly Jenson Baby Buttons!)

These are the questions...

1. What's the square root of minus one?

2. Will Bernie Ecclestone rule the world?

3. What's the fastest route out of Silverstone?

4. What's the best thing to wrap around a kangaroo with influenza?

As a response to Sparky, yes, 10 o'clock seems achievable, I'll pass on the jelly Buttons, although if Craig is planning on bringing a barbecued minstrel, I may be tempted. The pedestrian bridge seems as good a landmark as any, even if we can't get across it - plus it's next to one of the beer vans.

As to who's coming? Well, at the last count, just about everyone...

I'd say there's rather a large number of people from this place going. 10am??? I think you mean 8.30am - autographs!!!

Although if it's busy (dependent on weather I guess) they put barriers up so there's no chance...

Sorry Minardi Fan, but I don't think you'll find many of the rest of us interested in collecting bloody autographs! We're only there for the beer!
