There's a reason. Last weekend's NASCAR Truck series race on SPEED was their highest-rated show ever, and SPEED is, after all, a business. One of those realities.

I like that Nascar driver crossover suggestion. Just because marketing to Nascar fans hasn't worked (free IRL tickets), doesn't mean it cannot work. Just because the Subaru Baja was a flop doesn't mean the Ridgeline will be. Remember all the buzz that was created by Jeff Gordon driving a Williams F1 car? Why not ask him if he'd like to do a CC race and try to work something out? Everyone always lements about how OW lost Gordon and I think it is more likley that Gordon fans would be more receptive to CC than Jr. fans would be to ALMS.
Man that's a lot of Nascar! I knew there were a lot of shows on Speed that I didn't want to watch, but not until you read that do you realize how much of it there is. On an unrelated side note, I met the guy who's car is done over in this show: "10:00 am Tuner Transformation Mazda Miata TV-PG" For the most part it's a lousy show, but they do have some decent episodes. He has a sticker on the back that says "Tuner Transformation." It was at a cruise so I asked him if he was poking fun at the show, because at that time the episode hadn't aired. He knew the producer, apparently the producer owns a Miata. Last edited by Snrub; 25 Feb 2005 at 20:53. |

i am a fan of NASCAR actually although not Lobotomized- this is actually a toungue in cheek reference, the actual quote was during practice one driver said to another overheard by Bobby Lobonte in an interview (racer magazine) "have you ever seen so many frontal lobotomies." I do think the "marketing" has gone too far, and they have lost the plot on racing, but strike while the irons hot. from Daytona to California -watkins and Sonoma, i love it, nothing like these biggggg lumber cars dance like balllerinas in the ovals and run like rhinos through the course. It is fantastic. that said, the interest to broaden CC's appeal by Champcar doing something to lure fan loaded drivers for one offs or partials just for exposure. The drivers may not care, in their busy 40+ week schedule- bu thtey sneak in Grand am races why not a cleaveland champcar race? or anywhere it would be HUGE for the series and international eyes would open a bit to see if the Champcar is as good as we say, and if the Nascar boys are "the greatest drivers in the world" according to Larry McReynolds....
some are really good but no Aryton or Schumacher, or Zanardi, or even AJ Foyt 1, or Andretti or Moss, or Fangio, or..... |
