Great, an extra 30 mins sitting on the bank while you wait for the race to start....
Dumbest idea ever. Better to make the paddock park more like the pro V8s (Aussie) do at the GP. But to the question about liabilities. How do you look into who owns what? Ie who is the "company director" etc listed for the V8ST's? Doesn't that have some bearing on who is in the firing line in the event a firing squad is set up? |

Hey 30 minutes to get in the hotdog line or watch some skid cars!
Anyway the building up to V8supercar races is about that long... |

Well it looks like the V8 Supercars are on their way out of here - which could work very nicely for the V8ST's...
http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/motorsp...ear-extinction Or is TC just blowing smoke to get more Government money? |

Exactly my thoughts as I commented on another thread - "V8SC will use this publicity to prod it's NZ fan-base, with the objective of drumming up enough support for another venue with ratepayers and taxpayers covering the cost."

Frankly i dont give a dam about what engines in what car, dont even really care if the cars look 100% the same, like Nascars do, I follow my hero's, whatever they drive. That why I follow the Gizz, because to me he's just a hard out racer end of story. |

The general public are not like that though.
And motorsport in NZ needs to sell itself to the level of fans below us devout racing worshipers. Tier 1 died. Why? It was made up of spec classes the above mentioned level of fan found boring. V8ST will be the same. Just maybe a little faster. |

I see. Sorry I am wrong. Tier 1 died because it had no stars.
Had nothing to do with boring races with identical cars. |

I don't follow you at all. Some of the best racing I've ever seen has been in classes with true parity where it's down to the setup and the driver. Door-to-door, three wide, all of them busting their balls to get ahead. So tell me, what ingredients make a non-boring race?

And what classes are there like that? Not the Swifts after the 2nd lap.
The Minis? oh wait.... |

We must be watching different stuff. But I'm still interested in an answer, what ingredients make a non-boring race?

Variety.
Loud exciting cars that do not all look the same that are not strung out over a lap after 3 laps. Cars that move around a bit and are not over aero'd now, what are you referring to when you say: "Door-to-door, three wide, all of them busting their balls to get ahead" Because that also is needed. |

That is because you are a die hard racing fan.
I am too. I enjoy most of those as well. How ever we are not the target audience. That is the next level or two down. There are not enough of us in NZ to make things work so we need to attract more people. |

I think we are all missing one other vital ingredient here - speed. I don't mind parity, as long as it's fast. The good drivers and teams will always get to the front anyway.
None of the Tier 1 classes were spectacularly fast, (Toyotas not included as they were not always at the Tier 1 meets) and the Production Series, Swifts, Minis and V8 Utes were spectacularly SLOW! At least the NZV8's were loud, and looked pretty good but they were pedestrian down the back straight of Pukekohe. But I also like one-off classes like the SuperGT's of old, and the Pre-65's and of course the wonderful Formula 5000's. You can have a lot of fun with reverse handicap starts and the like if the cars are not all the same. If you have a parity type class, then the only things you need are spectacular speed and the ability to overtake. I don't know how the V8ST's will shape up on the overtaking front, but they certainly look the money speed-wise and they make a great noise! |

I agree and have made that point but on another thread - "From reading a lot of posts on several threads, it seems to me that NZST will provide what a lot of people want to see. Big hairy loud V8's (a field of them will sound unreal), current Ford vs Holden models, the top NZ drivers that were in Tier 1 the past season (they all have substantial followings and Murph still pulls a crowd), and fast close racing. Let's just see how Round One goes!" |
