Wow. I gotta say, it doesn't look bad in the GT race version. It looks even better than the Esperantes of last year....well almost.

Well, car did not start. I'm not surprised though, because apparently it wasn't ready yet. Isn't Zhuhai supposed be the debut now?

I have to say that it looks somewhat better in race trim, but it's still no miss world.

In before bashing, just like what the Jag got for doing the same thing.

RSR are building the entire car from scratch, PTG is modifying an existing Esperante GT-LM.
Don Panoz says the car will be testing at Road Atlanta this week, then going to China, and expects 2 Abruzzis at Sebring. Also says there are European customers looking at it. |

Oh no! I don't mean to bash the Panoz at all. I am just pointing out that although the Abruzzi did the same thing that the Jaguar did last year, which was to show up, do one lap, but never run the race, the time difference really shows that it won't be the struggling cause of the Jags.
Bottom line; the Abruzzi program is like what, 4 months old and already has the car finished, while the Jaguar program is almost exactly 2 years and counting, but almost nothing to show for it. Also, judging from how ling the Esperante was raced, the Abruuzi will likely be here on the grid for a lonnnnngggg time to come. |

I'm sorry but the car just doesn't do it for me. Not only does it look out of place, but I doubt it'll do any better than the last Panoz that raced. Regardless of tires. I'm more interested in seeing the Gallardo's in GT next year in ALMS, not this thing. It's much too big, the car seemingly swallows the wheels and makes them look like they're rolling on donuts. This thing is ridiculous. I don't see how it's appealing to anyone in race trim or out. Just my two cents. I don't see a good future for this car, maybe it will have one, but I have my doubts.

That was NOT the last Panoz. So NO, that's not what I mean. I mean the esparante gt2 car, which only had limited success. Not to crack on Panoz, but it's been a while since it had a successful car.

I edited my post to show what I was talking about. The GT2 car was not very successful. It did win a few races, and held it's own, but it wasn't the most reliable of cars. I hope the new Panoz car does better, but IMO I don't think it will.

So in 2006, what year is it now? Like I said, it's been a long time since they've been successful. I never said they didn't have any success at all, and I didn't know they won GT2 at LeMans, which is why I asked. But since I've watched ALMS Panoz hasn't been at or near the front for a long time. |

The Esperante won Sebring and Le Mans, and it competed for the lead for several years against Porsche and Ferrari in the ALMS. Outside of those 2 brands, it's the most successful GT2 car ever (maybe tied with the BMWs, but BMW's pedigree in the endurance classics against quality opponents is somewhat weaker to me).
