2016 Australian GT Championship
? I remember Tony saying that the Aston customer support during his days of running that gorgeous DBR9 was pretty woeful so hopefully it's stepped up since then. The closest thing to a Aston factory team in our part of the world would be Craft Bamboo but they're definitely a factory supported customer team |

I thought this was interesting, mainly since he tossed in Aston amongst the obvious factory supported efforts of Audi, Nissan and now BMW:

Don't know where they're going to end up, but I'm hearing that Rusty French has ordered 2 of the new Mercs.

Sounds like Prodrive are dipping a toe in the GT game. I wonder if this will put some pressure on some other V8 teams to do the same?

I wonder whether Hackett's efforts for a return to GT racing started and ended with a Speedcafe article. Spitzeliegen Rennsport never got past creating a FB group it seems too whoever they were.

Nice to see Heimgartner stepping up.
Chill out kiddies I'm joking. In all seriousness though can't wait to see how he goes in the Audi, should be good to watch |

Its a seriously good thing for the championship and not a bad move by andre. Coming in a year that will see a number of gun drivers contest the championship and see BMW roll out a factory supported team the races will be difficult to win and the series is snowballing in popularity with fans/drivers and media. I think for any of the many development series drivers or Carrera cup drivers who have sponsorship cash to burn they are better of having a serious stint in Australian gt and potentially going overseas to then pursue other gt championships such as blancpain, adac masters, wec or any number of the marque events. To me it seems that Australian gt is right on the cusp of being able to support this kind of goal. |

I've seen that livery before. That's the promo car used by Michael Bartels as a type of real v virtual race at the Ring. Interesting....we finally get a Z4 in the championship but only when the new BMW arrives . Will be a treat for the ears

Its likely more interesting for what it doesn't say than what it says... that the car is gone, but maybe not the bloke piloting...
Perhaps RSR could run the TCM program for that pilot as well.. |

CRAIG BAIRD, SCOTT TAYLOR IN AUSTRALIAN GT TILTWednesday 13th January, 2016Author: Gordon Lomas ©
Scott Taylor has signed decorated racer Craig Baird to share his newly purchased AMG GT3 in the Australian GT Sprint and Endurance Series Successful Gold Coast businessman Scott Taylor will partner with highly experienced Craig Baird in a top level raid on the Australian GT Sprint and Endurance Series. Taylor has purchased a Mercedes-Benz AMG GT3 with the successor to the SLS set to arrive in Australia later this month. The car will be prepped and track tested ahead of its competition debut in the opening round of the Australian GT Championship in Adelaide from March 3-6. The brand new machine will be run out of the Erebus workshop with the squad’s experience over previous seasons with the SLS proving invaluable. Baird and Taylor will share the machine in both GT formats. Taylor is a late player to motorsport but has already racked up a good level of experience including Porsche Carrera Cup, Aussie Cars and a sprinkling of GT starts. “I had two starts in the GT Series last year after having a dabble in the category at Sydney Olympic Park three years ago,” Taylor told Speedcafe.com. “It’s a great class because you spend a lot more time in the car and I consequently get a lot more balanced as opposed to a quick sprint. “You are in the car for 30 mins to an hour and you get a lot more settled. “The benefit from driving with a pro like Craig Baird is to share the data and the coaching that comes with it. “So it allows you to improve your racecraft at a greater rate because your team-mate who is your second or first driver or whatever is your coach. “They have got a 6.3litre V8 so they are not working their backside off. “(consequently) it’s a more pleasurable drive so you can focus more on your learning rather than wringing the thing’s neck.” Baird said the AMG will be in its element at some rounds while it may not be as comfortable at others. “I think Quinny (Australian GT patriarch Tony Quinn) has got the formula working very well,” Baird told Speedcafe.com. “Some rounds will work for us and some will work for other people. “I think overall it will balance itself out. People with will have good rounds, bad rounds and otherwise.” |
