IMO it’s a nice flavour- but no, I don’t have any in the house, despite likely being in the target demographic. |

Ha haha, Mike, the equivalent here would be something like verveine or camomille supposed to calm down the seniors. Very popular after the nurse gave a suppositoire…*May be John could translate and adapt "un suppo, une claque sur les fesses et au lit mon lapin!"
What do you drink when racing would stick more to the thread. I like aspirin or paracetamol. |

Who remembers Horlicks tablets?
It looks like they're still available... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/5-PACKS-O...UAAOSwA4dWJ4z7 However, I remember them being sold in an incredibly tightly-wrapped tube, rather than a sachet. I haven't drunk Horlicks for years but do have fond memories of drinking it just before going to bed when I was about 10. |

I've got some here if you want it Mike. And it's healthy-Horlicks made with water. Bloody awful though!

If you want a nice bedtime drink I suggest hot chocolate with a tot of rum in it. Needs to be dark chocolate (ie Poulain, Gerard). It's a recommendation from a Doctor so can only be good for you!! |

I'm a little surprised the baub has not yet commented on Horlicks moments ... but then given the time of day he has probably already enjoyed a mug of H and nodded off for a refreshing sleep.
Gerard, Mike's offering of "Malted Milk" is sort of sound as a description of the taste (as I recall. It has been some decades since I last tried any. Or indeed first tried any. I suspect the two events were concurrent.) but if you are, perhaps, an aficionado of American Blues music "Malted Milk" has a somewhat different connotation connected to the days of Speakeasys during the alcohol Prohibition era. The Malt referred to would have passed through a few additional processes before being included in the milky beverage. Personally I think the latter would be more enjoyable but the former likely more healthy. |

My management bought a number of Christmas puddings for the family gathering. None of them were eaten on the day. Fortunately most of them were individual sizes so there is at least some opportunity for a solo consumer to help to consume them before they reach their "use by" date. (March 2018). She also bought some "Thick Brandy Cream" to go with them. The "use by" date is today so I manned up and started to eat the stuff. I think I may take heart from your Doctor's advice John. I'm wondering if an an espresso or several with a large spoonful of Cream with Brandy would offer similar medically sound benefits? The idea seems similar enough - in so far that it involves drinking something. Actually probably spooning something given how thick the thick cream is. |

[QUOTE=grantp;3791067]Some doctors seem to offer truly wise recommendations.

I realised today that I've got a Christmas Pudding I'd forgotten about. It's got Adnams beer in it, so shall save for a special occasion, not that I get many of those these days. The Doctor concerned is indeed a good man, a cancer specialist so probably needs a stiff drink every now & then... |

I had forgotten that the brand is now owned by GSK. The web site does not seem to mention tablets or any of the other variants (sweets for example) that I noticed from the search results. http://www.horlicks.co.uk/products.html However there are some innovative recipes available - well, there's this one that was the first on view and dared not wonder what the others might offer ... http://www.horlicks.co.uk/recipes/me...own-roast.html Lamb with a Horlicks crown I think it claims to be. Gerard - sorry, the web pages indicate that they are for a UK audience only. I don't think that is for Xenophobic reasons - more likely GSK don't wish to be accused of causing death by laughter to non-UK dwellers should they read the contents - especially the recipes. |

C'on you both, John and Grant, are true experts in drinks! I see what Ovomaltine is but I'd rather follow your doctor recommandation John.
As to Xmas pudding, we've always been told that we are not refines enough to appreciate it. May be a little bit of xenophobia here though… I use to drive with a team based in Charentes - region well appreciated by Brits I guess - and I can tell you that the mix between a famous indian tonic and cognac is fantastic. In French we say "you can drink it like good milk" but it makes you happy really fast. After the race and avec modération of course! Or "un modérateur" if some shows up… |

The switch to Horlicks might be a good one if they really do put a tax on latte cups. To explain that one to Gerard, there's talk in England of putting a 25p tax on take-away coffee cups to try & cut-down on waste. |

All plastic no matter what the purpose. I suspect they have not thought it through - as usual. As a thought exercise take a look around, at home and when out and about, and work out what out world would look like with out plastic. For a start typing this message would be difficult. Very difficult. The alternatives would be what? Wood? That could be interesting. Does the world have enough trees? Maybe we should corner the market in Tin Mugs? |

I had wondered about the film.
I don't recall seeing more than snippets of the earlier stages of the "franchise" so I could hardly have an opinion about this one but it always seems to me that the harder they try with the promotional stuff the more likely it is that the film requires the hype to give it a successful commercial life. It will be even more challenging for the film industry if they have to give up on the sex angle after more than a century of exploiting it. |

Going to the other extreme, I once worked with a chap whose obsession was trying to get as many brews of tea as he could possibly manage out of a single teabag. I have this worrying mental image of him one day in the drinks making room when he proudly announced that the current tea bag was on its 36th brew. Or it might have been 38th. (Some things are extraordinary enough to stay with you for the rest of your life for no worthwhile reason.) |

John, thanks for the explanation. 25 extra pcs sounds a huge tax for a coffee. Here they often used a kind of hard carton cups but still the top is made of plastic. Can we imagine people bringing their own mug and ask for take away? If we go from plastic to paper or carton who will save the trees then…

Think of the luxury of walking into a pushchair free Costas! This tax will no doubt bring about a march on parliament by all those pushchair loving mummies.

So t'other day I took heed of all this paper cup propaganda and bought a Wild Bean Cafe re-usable thermo mug. They made the coffee in a paper cup, poured it into the mug and threw the paper cup away. *sigh*
Still, half price coffee for my next three fill-ups helps. And I do use it at the Costa Express machines. Sent from my EVA-L09 using Tapatalk |
