David, this is the best resource I can find as far as race results for Wellington and Pukekohe, but it is not always complete and there are one or two errors- but there seems to be no other easily accessible information so it is certainly better than anything else.1988 results shows the John Sax entry finishing third, this is likely to be your car (or one of its sisters?) as John seemed to be running Frank Gardner built cars.Unfortunately I have no footage of this race. I am going to make some enquires about getting archive footage of all of these Wellington and Pukekohe races from TVNZ, although I suspect it may come at a cost! Nobody seems to have produced a video or DVD for these races.

At the Brno round there was a privately entered M3 running near the back half of the pack which looked like it could be your "other" car, it was the same dark blue with white wheels, unfortunately you only see it twice so it is very hard to positively ID it. I have some information from Schnitzer Motorsport which lists Works cars Chassis numbers 1-34, 1-18, 1-15 as being built up for/during the 1987 season, and midway (June) also chassis 1-42, which was car #46.

I can again confirm that there was no DTM race at Brno in 1990.For the '91 race, Venc raced the car usually driven by Harald Becker.he was 27th in the first race(last!) and did not start the second due to an engine fire.The car was #57,was plain white and backed by Olympus Cameras, Loctite, Narjmex, Bohemia Crystal andStrojimport.He did not race at any other DTM events in '91. For '92 he raced only at Brno in the DTM,#40 he was 12th/16th in the two races.The car was entered by Vanicek Motorsport. In '93 he did the whole series finishing with 1 point for 10th place at the second race at round 3 at the Nurburgring.His race number this year was #32.For the last two seasons his car was pale blue and white and backed by Kaucuk a Czeck petrol and tyre company.There are a couple of pictures on the web,try www.vrchy.com look for historie on the bar,click,scroll down to BMW na Ecce Homo(the Czeck hillclimb site),scroll down to the 39 th photo. Then go back to historie,click on BMW M3 DTM.It helps if you can read Czeck!! I suspect that any car Venc used prior to this could be the car you have.Ian.

To Brown Dog: which car do you own? The dark blue car with white wheels you saw at the '91 Brno DTM race is almost certainly that of Kurt Konig#28? Ian.

Ian, the car I own was built in 1991 by a privateer company "Heigo" - who from what I can tell manufacture rollcages. It was built as an Evo Sport with 2.5l engine,and late spec parts from BMW Motorsport.From what I can tell it was raced mostly in German or European hillclimbs! Owned by Dieter Rottenberger, then Frank Hohmann then Richard Weber. Biggest claim was winning 1992 German hillclimb championship at the hands of Dieter Rottenberger.I deliberately did not include the details of it here (until now!) as it was not built from a "works" kit, rather it was a motorsport shell that was built into a car by a privateer. I bought it as it had a good spec. including a fresh 2.5 engine and 6 spd Holinger sequential box, and late suspension, rather than a famous history.A few pics of the car in its "early" days:

Ian the link posted by Brown Dog is about the car that I have. All the photos are of the same car, at different times. I think the bodywork was modified in about 1996. I wrote to Roman Krejci, the author of the article and he translated it into English for me. Unfortunately I was giving the dates from memory, which has proven not too accurate. You dont happen to have any of the results from the French Super Tourism for 1990 do you.

To Grelley,here are the results for both seasons.I used to subscribe to the French magazines Auto Hebdo and Echappement and am therefore confident they are accurate.A little note to say that in '90 the cars livery and sponsors was slightly different than the '91 version although the base colour remained the same. 1990(all Michel Ferte);Le Mans(Bugatti) did not race due to lack of suitable engine;Nogaro ret';Magny Cours 1st;Montlhery)(plus Jacques Lafitte) ret' seized engine;Dijon 7th;Pau 1st;Rouen ret'gearbox;Croix en Ternois ret'electrics;Albi 7th;Pau Arnos 1st;Ledenon ret'engine;Nogaro 2nd; Montlhery 2nd; Ferte was 2nd in the championship with 204 points.

1991 results(Ferte again):Nogaro 4th;Montlhery ret' transmission;Le Mans Bugatti 4th; Dijon 4th;Pau 9th;Charade 9th;Rouen 3rd;Croix en Ternois 4th;Albi ret'brakes;Ledenon and Nogaro not entered;Montlhery 2nd;Ferte was 5th overall with 130 points.I hope this is helpful. What are your plans for the car,will you keep it in Supertourisme trim? Ian.

Jeez Ian, you are a goldmine of information!!!! Yep, anything you have would be great. Richard weber owned the car from 14/5/96 to 12/09/99 and it was raced at Salzburgring 12/9/97, somewhere else I can't read 3/9/99,Dijon 17/9/99,Hockenheim 9/10/99

To Brown Dog;Your car was indeed built new for '91 by Heigo who are a German motorsport safety and parts company. Here are the results I have(all are in the Group A class of the German Hillclimb championship rather than overall finishes as there were much faster Formula and sportscars taking part).1991: Hauenstein 3rd;Schaumberg 2nd;Trier 4th.He was 4th overall with 159 points; 1992: Krahberg 2nd;Trier 4th;Potzberg 3rd;Wolsfeld 2nd;Alzey 2nd;Hauenstein 3rd;Homburger 1st;Teufelrutsch 1st;Osnabrucker Slalom 2nd;Unterfranken 2nd;Eorohill 1st.He was German champion with 173 points.He also raced at the Hockenheim season finale race..no result known; 1993:Krahberg 1st;Wolsfelder 2nd;Trier ret' crash;Homburger ret';Hauenstein 1st;Unterfranken 1st;Eurohill 1st;Wolsfeld 1st;The car was white with diagonal 'BMW' stripes on the sides and bonnet.Backed by Bad Klissinger Milchprodukte/Konig/Heigo. 1994:Hauenstein 2nd;Unterfranken 2nd. I have ni idea what happened to the car until it next appeared with Frank Hohmann in 1999,probably in storage?

Frank Hohmann ran the car in the German Divinol Cup series (all categories of touring and sportscars tool part).It was white with blue lower bodywork and blue chequered stripe down the centre.Main sponsor was Hermstedt Communication Products.Car was for sale in Autosport 25/11/99 for £27,500,described as ex DTM!!(aren't they all!)with 2.3 litre motor.Advert said car had won three out of three races in '99,I do not have confirmation of that. For 2000,Richard Weber drove an M3 but the only information I have of that is in an ex-Murmann/Diebels Alt DTM car still in their green/gold colours.I do not have any info of him racing your car. While I was researching for this reply,I found a picture in my files of presumably you driving the car at the '03 Skopje Classic and it matches perfectly with the photo I have of Hohmann in 1999. I hope this is of help? Is the car still in its livery as seen at Skopje Classic or have you changed it? Any chance of a photo appearing on the forum? Ian.

you are a legend Ian! Thanks a bundle for that! Car was owned by Richard Weber from 96 to 99 (see post#39) Fortunately I have the original logbook for the car which has pretty much all of these events listed. Unfortunately of course it does not list results!
While it may not be "ex-works anything" it is always interesting to find out the history of these things. The car still has its "original" livery of white, lower blue, chequers and "Hermstedt Communications" on it,including "Divinol Cup" stickers on roof.It is same car as pictured at Scope Classic in 2003, that was prvious owner who brought it in from Germany or wherever it was sold. It is undergoing a full restoration at the moment,is a bare shell right now, and I am not sure if I will repaint it the same, haven't decided yet. It is now running a 2.5l engine and 6 speed Holinger sequential box. It originally ran a 2.5l engine, then a 2.0l according to the logbook, and was brought into NZ with a 2.3(with "Randlinger"sticker on valve cover- not sure if it was one of their engines or just the sticker!) Previous owner fitted a 2.5 and the Holinger, then i bought it. Plenty of pics, not sure how I can post them up though? To Brown Dog: I noticed that you said Weber owned the car until12/9/99 yet he raced it at Dijon 17/9/99 and Hockenheim 9/10/99.I presume this info came from the cars Wagenpass? Ian.

yes Wagen Pass for those dates. It lists Richard weber as the owner 14/5/96 and Frank Hohmann 12/9/99 so I assume Frank drove it in those races after that (purchase) date. Here is a couple of pictures:

Hi Ian, thankyou for that information. Yes my plans are to race it the way it is. I am still working through a number of small jobs on the car as it was sitting unused for 14 years. Do you have any photos of it in its earlier trim. In understand that one change was to go from 17in wheels to 18in

I'm trying to track down the history of the car, Chassis M3/1-57, that raced at Calder, then Wellington, then Mt Fuji. It replaced the crashed Bathurst car, Chassis M3/1-42.
It was sold by Schnitzer at the end of 1987 to a Japanese race team, they think called "Abe". The car could have been raced later in Japan, but I don't know who drove it or where. Anyone??? thanks folks..... |
