My long-term project, the BMW 1800 TiSa rep., is progressing.
Everything has been removed, and has revealed practical, no rust. |

Yes.....or to be rather less concise - the Alfa Twin-cams that had twin carbs ran either Weber or Dell-orto twin 40s - I've never worked out whether there was any method to the choice of which one - probably just what was in stock when they threw the car together around the lovingly built engine....
The twin carbs in the Boxer-engined Suds were downdraught Solex IIRC - they were in demand by those funny people who like VW Beetles. My winter project should be to get rid of a lot of stuff in my unit and get down to doing something with the Sud Sprint that's been sat there for a couple of years, or the Giulia saloons that have been there even longer..... and also dig my way through to the 924 that's lurking almost at the back of the unit, that a friend wants to buy - which in turn would let me get at the 33 Sportwagon that is destined to go up to Dundee, and the (Imp-based) Husky that's looked at me sadly every time I've walked past it for the last 5 years...... I shouldn't be sat here, should I? But I can't do any of the above until I can move the big block of ice that is my Transit recovery truck...and that doesn't look like being anytime soon...... |

I really donĀ“t know !!
Leo, the Dutch driver, who bought my Cortina GT, became second overall, out of 40+ drivers. But then, it might also be down to the driver. |

I thought Matt Monro was a bus conductor. Either way, he had one of the best ballad singer voices ever, and George Martin captured it brilliantly.
Anyway... About time I showed my winter project (actually, the project is entering its second winter) Here it is in the wild ...and in captivity I bought it from its original owner, who raced it between 1973 and 1978. It was exactly as it had finished its last race. Here's a front suspension "before" ...and after It won't be long before I'm on to Al to reproduce the stickers |

I doubt it. The car is a Supervee, so the hubs, brakes, driveshafts etc have to be VW. The wheels must be some sort of VW aftermarket product, although the resident VW expert in the Historic FF2000 Association had never seen these ones before. Actually, the two fronts are the only wheels of that type. The others are all boring Revolutions.
Here's a picture of the engine bay. Hopefully, I'll be able to post a more hygenic version before too long... ...should be putting the gearbox back together at Iain's on Saturday |

Alan: That is a nice car. There is some traces of the Falconer formula Ford car in its lines, or?

The car was so original that, rather than replace everything, I'm refurbishing as much as I can. |

Transit models up to year 2000 ran Ford parts bin 9 inch brakes...
Should anyone need yet another alternative source! Lots of lovely new toys out there, good luck to all of you for the winter. My 'winter Project' is almost complete. Service and repair on the camera kit! All was well until the bloody long lens aperture jammed after return from repair. Luckily, it did it IN the shop! |

Do you need anything for the Sud? A friend of mine's father raced one for a while about 12 years ago (built from the Sud they had bought and run as his wife''s car from brand new). The car has long since been sold but i have a feeling there are a number of useful spares which did not get sold with it (cloverleaf heads, doors, bits of trim etc) . PM me if you need anything and I will ask . |

5 mph Alfa write off.
I had a couple of alfasuds. I wrote one off (a Ti) at about 5mph. It was the mid seventies and I was crawling along in the queue of an Army road stop (NI) when I noticed my cartridge belt sitting on the floor in front of the passenger seat. (I had left it there after some Pheasant shooting at the weekend). I reached over to tuck it in under the seat out of sight, when the guy in front - I think it was a Hillman Avenger - with a tow bar-, hit the brakes while I sailed merrily on. The papier mache front end folded up pushing the rad into the fan, which then bent its way onto the timing belt causing it to jump a few notches, and that was that.
Phoned the bro and got a tow home. Thems was the days |

Little tip for anyone else thinking of building an Escort for racing. Dont leave the brand new set of paint brushes on the back of the floor pan then weld the rear tramp bar brackets to the chassis.
FIRE FIRE!!!!!!!!. |
