maybe under the corsa motorsport team banner, effectively a defacto works team?, if its true then it all unravels now with zytek and becomes clear, i just hope the hybrid doesnt sound anything like the dishwasher 908's and R10's!

The buzz coming from various sources, particularly Marshall Pruett, suggests that Corsa is to be a Zytek 2-car factory outfit in '09, with a possible PLM race debut for the program. Frank Biela is mentioned as 3rd driver - interesting given his continuing Audi connections.

I cant see him leaving the Audi fold after so many wins , both in Touring cars and sportscars and more importantly Le Mans . I would have thought he would retire into a ambasador position at Audi .

I read a couple of weeks ago that that is the intention with Pirro, not said the same about Biela other than the R8 GT3 testing role announced this week.

Hmm, article on the Corsa Zytek but it does not state where or when it will debut. Guess we will have to wait another hour for the team to announce at Detroit.

From Autosport:

The car features a KERS system, similar in principal to that being introduced to Formula One next season. The Zytek will use lithium-ion batteries, mounted next to the driver in the monocoque for safety. They will be charged by and drive a motor generator unit between the engine and gearbox, and is expected to produce an extra 40bhp.

Autoweek:

The ethanol-fueled engine is a newly designed Zytek 90-degree, normally aspirated 4.5-liter V8 with four overhead camshafts and four valves per cylinder, with an output of 625 hp. The electric motor is a direct-drive Zytek proprietary design powered by an on-board lithium-ion energy-storage system with a KERS (kinetic energy recovery) supplemental regeneration system.

As they actually call it "KERS", so what's the relation to F1 then? Maybe meaning it's only FIA-homologated system? Hopefully nothing to do with the actual rules KERS rules in F1, too restricted.

KERS is really just a generic acronym - Kinetic Energy Recovery System. That doesn't necessarily say anything else about it.

I know that but was it before FIA started using it (in relation to future F1 rules) couple of years ago? It's also commonly known as simply "regenerative brake".

Also ACO was reported (some endurance-info.com news) to be working with FIA regarding hybrid rules.

True, but that might just be them trying to convey to the public that they are just as advanced as F1

Or as advanced as F1... because:

Zytek have won a two year contract to develop and supply Kinetic Energy Recovery Systems (KERS) for the 2009 season, when the regulations permitting the use of hybrid auxiliary drives become effective. Zytek had discussions with a number of F1 teams but finally agreed an exclusive deal with one team.

Looks like the debut of the Eco Radical might be in doubt. They aren't going to be at Silverstone next weekend, so I wonder if they will make it to Petit?

The few times I have seen this project, it has been thrown together rather than being a result of evolution. So yes, the car is hardly ready, and the question is if it ever will be..
