Couldn't watch it but that sounded like on the IMS Radio like one of the craziest finish to an indy 500 i've ever known.

Probably got lost on the track trying to pass Kimball. With everything happening, the win, the lapping, the marbles, the fuel, forgot his rhythm.

The most dramatic finish imaginable.

I feel sorry for Hildebrand, but delighted for Wheldon.

Congratulations to Bertrand Baguette for a mighty race. He was in the lead till lap 197. Could have been a shock victory.

Wow what a finish! Dan Wheldon has done it again. Bryan Herta Autosport beat the big guys. It's incredible. That post race interview with Bryan really brought tears of joy to my face.

Once Hildebrand had overtaken Franchitti, I thought I had seen the winning overtake of the race and that Panther Racing would finally get the victory they have long been craving for. Sadly, JR lost it while lapping a backmarker. I'm glad he's alright. I had hoped he would make it to the line 1st on three wheels, but in the end, the line was too far away.

Yet, Dan Wheldon and the Herta / Curb / Schmidt entry really deserve this win. I mean the #98 car has been an Indy-only entry. They really needed to win it. And so they did. Congratulations.

Here's hoping Bryan Herta Autosport can add further races to their schedule this season.

Happy Birthday, Indianapolis Motor Speedway! Those final 30 seconds are worth a century of history. Congratulations to Wheldon, Herta and Britain for the win, and congratulations for the 41 drivers, dozens of teams and thousands of spectators for the race.

Is it not okay to pass a crashed car under yellow flags? Is he supposed to hang back and allow Hildebrand to crawl over the line to victory?

Well, both Wheldon and Hildebrand would deserve the win. But passing the car that was in the wall and is on 3 wheels sliding onwards on the track does not seem to be overtaking under yellow at all.

Of course, Panther Racing must file a complaint for business reasons. If you were not allowed to go by the crashed car under yellow, the entire field would have to stop at the scene of every accident. So the outcome should be pretty obvious, shouldn't it?

What's Dan Wheldon supposed to do, slow down and follow Hildebrand as his car slides to the finish line? He gained no advantage.

I checked the replay of the finish : the yellow flag was waved after Wheldon crossed the finish line.

But I feel for J.R. Hildebrand, he must be devastated.

Feel sorry for Hildebrand, so close.

However that's another Brit to add to the list of winners.

whilst changing the result would be downright ridiculous, the yellow light was clearly on before Wheldon crossed the finish line.

Right. But the post 91 above clearly shows that Wheldon passed J.R.'s crippled car while the green light was still on. The yellow came out between the time Wheldon passed him, and when he crossed the finish line.

There was a clear track in front of him after he passed Hilderbrand and that's when the light goes yellow.
