Bit of a difference in horsepower there... and arguably not a huge jump in the FIAT power to the existing Fiesta engine in the latest Formula Fords. Is the FIAT connection a pukka 'works' deal, with marketing & promotion by the local FIAT factory importer, to highlight their involvement in the series? Local FIAT volumes seem primarily in the commercial vehicles in their range, so is that a fit for them, and for the F4 category. Hence my puzzlement... |

Perhaps the teams are required to purchase a complete Bambino/500, or whatever that engine belongs to, as a way of acquiring their power plant?

Would have been nice if Ford had been the engine supplier and Series promoter /manager as in the UK (and France?) but I was of the impression that all F4engines worldwide were meant to be similar performance?
Still ,another manufacturer on the Australian Motorsport scene in the Fiat /Chrysler Group is very welcome. |

Interesting that the UK variant of F4 isnt using the Mygale chassis either. Which perhaps makes the experience in the category less transferable for a local pilot looking to race in Europe in the F4 class... |

Don't use F4 in Britain as any sort of yard stick. It existed before the FIA decided on a format and is in a gradual process of aligning regulations. But that'll probably take a couple of years from what I've heard.

So why couldn't CAMS have latched onto a more stable global spec, such as F3, for instance?

The cynical view might be that F4 allows the opportunity for significant tax advantages for high wealth individuals, a mantra that continues from the AMSF operation... and given that there are 30+ F3 cars already here, F3 was never going to achieve that goal...

Australasian Touring Cars. (93 Viewing)
Discussion on road racing categories such as V8Supercar, V8 Development Series, NZV8's, Aussie Racers, Asian Touring Cars, Targa Tasmania, V8Utes, Saloon Cars, IPRA, Commodore Cup, Marque Sports and any other ANZ&A tintops. Why are we discussing an open wheeler racing class here?? They haven't got a doors or a roof the last I heard nor are they a road racing category. |

Yes we did. And they are happily bouncing along amongst the GT threads from all round the world.
This thread may end up in the international single seaters piece as well, but it is Australian, and doesnt technically exist yet.. so it stays here.. |

Fantastic news that Ford will be the engine supplier bringing Australia into line with British and European Formula 4 series.
Ford fans in Australia will be pleased to see that Ford are not lost to Australian motorsport. |
