Can anyone suggest a good stop over spot betwixt Calais/Spa ? motorhome and trailer, pull up, sleep, wake up, drive off.
Preferably not surrounded by a lake of **** and a load of truckies, and the trailer gone! an hour or two from Calais would be good. |

Just had a tx from Barbara Lambert. Now taxi drivers are on strike, They are held up just outside Brussels. Think I might take the E 42 and go south. We always stop in Tornai Joe. Just past the border.

Two days of mostly wet and now down to one pair of dry shoes, so must be Spa (or silverstone in July!).
Did manage two track sessions first thing in almost dry, though, first to bed in new rear shoes on an SLR for the owner who hadn't arrived, and then in damper conditions checked out Gilbert Gilbern for 30 mins to ensure fuel starvation issue was history. So far, no sign, so all fingers crossed! Certainly doesn't look dry for any day over w/end, varying amounts of pleut according to the experts. Me and Delta still in shorts- it's only September! |

Good luck Mike, Iain, Wayne and all other Tenthers in the Six Hour, shame I can't be there this year, hopefully next.....
The rain should suit Gilbern in the Six Hour, just be lucky with your fuelling strategy & hope you're not queuing for too long. Enjoy! |

Arrived late in the day just time to catch some of the 6-hour qualifying session. Brief chat with Iain - car seemed to be running well. A few quick pit photos as 'scene setters':

Iain & Mike still going well when I last saw the car about 30 minutes ago. Iain had just finished a stint and was very pleased with how it was going. I left the pit lane just as he was serving tea to the crew - always time for a cuppa.
Not sure how other 'Tenthers are going - I lost track of progress when out and about taking photos. Walked miles again - knackered! |

Well done Iain and Mike, some good lap times there in Gilbert; beat Shaun Lynn's GT40.
I don't know where you get your energy from, Iain! A long weekend spannering at Goodwood and straight to the 6 hours. |

Great result for GTS11 with 5 coming in the top 20. Special mention to the MGBs of Sjoerd Peereboom, Jaspar Izaks and Tom Smith who were pipped in the last few laps to the class win by the McInerney 911 and also to Ian Prior and Bob Luff who came 19th from a grid position of 88th
We did not have such a good result this year. We qualified 34th and pole for GTS11 in the Marcos but went out after only 8 laps when the clutch release arm pivot broke and the arm fell, locking the flywheel. There's always next year...... |

Is Bob Luff still racing? I remember him from when we started in the early 80s!

Great result for Mike and Iain, always a great result to finish without new parts failing or having a new fan belt fail, or -------#-----..

Just to say thanks for all the comments, everyone. The race wasn't without issues for us, but once again we did all 6hrs without having to open the bonnet or wield a spanner. I will expand when home and back to normality!
First 90 minutes in car gave me some of the most fun racing I've ever had. You wouldn't believe it was an endurance race by the amount of dicing going on! Later, the torrential rain gave me some 'please red flag it' thoughts, as track was undriveable. Only fact that Safety Cars were out stopped carnage... Really chuffed to have 2 out of 2 finishing record, and come home with Gilbert in one piece. Next morning car started on the button, and sounded ready for another 6hrs. Mind you, brakes said otherwise! Thanks to Iain for his driving and being such a great mate, helpers Paul, Stuart, Rick and Sarah. Plus the Mirage lads for diving in at the stops to help wherever needed. Luckily only cleaning screen and lights, but accomplshed in seconds both times! Congrats to all other tenthers in the race, and commiserations to those who had terminal problems. It is a very special event and worthy of its status. |
