superbird should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
The engine on the Zip Kart is a Maxsym 500cc 4 stroke. I think the engine is only at the prototype stage at the moment. The one on the kart at the Autosport show was only a clay model. According to the blurb, the engine is capable of 100+ hp but Rpm will be restricted to prolong engine life.

They don't have any details of this engine on their website,do you have any other sources of info for this Superbird?

apparentley the engine on the kart was just a dummy for the show, and they haven't built a real one yet,but it has been designed and now needs to be built and tested.

hey dudes
where is everbody?
Eastern Creek was a blast but I never saw the dude off the list that lived down the road tho.
pity, he missed a great event.
My engine/axle backstay/chain adjuster broke on the Saturday in the first race putting me out for the day but we rebuilt it on Sat arvo and got the old girl out on the Sunday and had an absolute ball!
2nd ufortunate was that the axle pulled so far forward that it destroyed the speed sensor and in the last race the timing sensor came away and i got no meanigful data. Bugger.
Oh well, next time ay!

I downloaded the video from Kevin Hartin, awesome stuff.

Standing start is interesting,we do all ours rolling, although one guy here is trying to get that changed,I always stall when I try it in the pits.

Bwaaaahahahahahahaha
try revving the bloody thing up a bit ya turkey.
Quite often burying the right foot to the floor and letting the engine sit on the rev limiter works but is a bit hard on clutches tho!! LOL On my RS250 I simply keep the revs around 9000rpm and feed the clutch as i go. Does take a bit of practice tho.
I never bothered with the vid as I am on a bloody dialup as there is no fast option where I live in Tassie (sighs). It puts real meaning into the WWW. (world wide wait dot) LOLOL

easy set it up to download and go to bed,I pay a monthly fee for unlimited time, give me an adress and I'll put it on CD and mail it.

We're planning on practicing our standing starts by doing a day at the drags, quite a few of the guys are keen to try the 1/4,just somewhere else to show the car/bike guys how slow they really are

Got all of them, did one a night, might have seen him passing you as he was very late getting to the grid in one of the races, quality isn't great but its good enough.

We had a TV crew do in kart cam for the NZ champs,it'll probly show Anton driving into the back of the current champ in a overly ambitious passing attempt.

I'll start saving now for eastern Creek 2004!

He seemed to have a lot better corner speed than most but he needed a few more ponies for the straights.

There was a whole 10min on national Tv from our NZ champs which is 10 more than i've seen in the last 5 years,Anton didn't even run his FPE as it developed a bit of a leak, and no one was running at Nigels pace anyway as we had one of the worst turnouts I've seen.

I know Nigel (NZ1) is hoping to do Eastern creek all depends on the money thing.

Yeah money is always the big killer when it comes to travelling anywhere and with no cash incentives at the end of the day for superkarting certainly sorts the **** from the clay as far as dedication is concerned!
I raced two events last year down here in Tassie in the Formula Vee and got 65 bucks!. Ok 65 bucks is peanuts at the end of the day but hey, it sparks my enthusiasm for the new series.
So much so that I am probably bying the 'Vee that I steered last year.
Three grand for a reasonabl car with enough spares to sink a ship.
Cheap motorsport that pays its way!
What can I say!
There are at least 3 yanks who are committed to take the trip to eastern Creek next year and interest shown from quite a few more.
I hope that happens.

Actually I missed what I was going to say in the last post about straight line speed.
Kev, who owns that kart stubbornly adheres to the notion that a rotax will still be more than a match for a Jap Vee twin. He has unloaded big dough into that engine and has one of the best builders anywhere on the job and they are always blitzed in speed and out of the corner pulling power.
Shame really as it was obvious that crossland would be more than a match for most of those guys with a "decent" engine.

we tell people over here that Rotax is Austrian for boat anchor, horrible horible things unless you have a very deep wallet.

I believe that Kev used to run a RS before going to the slotax, doesn't Alan Rose do his engines? he fixed one for a mate of mine and certainly made it better than it was before.

Hehehehe
Dunno about Kev running an RS b4 the blowtacks 256 but yeah, Alan rose has been fettling the engine. I know Alan can screwdriver them well but in my view you cant make a silk purse out of a sows ear!!! Bwaaaahahahaha!
Kev has got a trailer load of stuff for that engine, pipes carbies and a legion of other goodies that he totes along. I can only marvel at the determination of him with it.
Whatever gives him a stiffy but my stock standard '92 RS is about as quick as his except for absolute top end and in considerably bigger between corners.
Mine only makes power to 12500 and then simply dies as a result of my setting the headpipe lengths long and top end jetting accordingly for a bulletproof engine. Those guys regularly rev up past 13500 and well beyond to get them to go. Bugger that. I dont even bother lifting the barrels of mine even after 4 big events.
mebbe that why I am half a lap slower than them !!!
Heheheheheheheheh!

ok then ,which of the jap twins is the best.in nz the tz250 is used ,there a no rs250,s being used.
although i see stocky,s rs blows the tz,s off with ease.
he got the quickest time on the radar at laguna,& considering his karts with hondas were about the next quickest to lawson quite impressive.
i would like to see lawson race else were, like the uk or aussie, have a go in those places.
a one off like laguna is is not really a world challange, spread it over tracks the he doesnt know also.
whos knows stocky my kick his butt in aussie.
but any way is there much between the rs & tz.??

Yeah seeing Lawson out here to race will be awsome. Why doesn't the Superkarts get a run at the Aussie Grand Prix like it did in the 90's. Seeing them go round Oran Park would awsome as well

At this stage it is still just a rumour but with those guys you never know.
There are definitely a couple of other fast yanks coming over tho.
The support events at the AGP have to pay a ****load of money to get on that bill. In the past, the superkarts were sponsored to the tune of tens of thousands of dollars to get on to Adelaide GP.
At this stage, we are working on a suitable package to enable the superkarts to get onto Albert park some time in the future. Unfortunately, there are many hurdles to overcome and Cams, the controlling body of Australian motorsport does not make anything easy for us as fas as track safety issues and other concerns that are too lengthy to bother with here.Suffice to say that the wheels are in motion but they keep spinning and not going too far!!!

The NSW club run regularly at Oran Park.
Check out their websit at: www.superkart.org.au
They usually have a calendar there.

AFAIK there are no issues with running anything at Oran from the smallets tiddlers right through to GP bikes and the old F 5000's.
As a rule the bike guys place crash pads agains the walls adjacent to the track but I dont beleive that 5 & 6 are any more worry that anywhere else.

Oooooohh I see!
Sorry dude!
Umm there are issues as far as the barrier design and the ploughing of the gravel traps and softcock stuff like that.
Evidently, some Einstein came up with the notion that the furrowing of the gravel in the traps is not suitable for superkarts as they reckon that it would enable the karts to simply skate across the gravel or just upend the kart!!!
yeah, sure!
Trouble is that the gravel must be furrowed to a certain spec to suit F1 and nothing else will do.
Apart from all this thewre is still the question of money and that could amount to as much as 50 grand.
Then, some other category will have to go to make way for the karts and i reckon that Cams will not take kindly to any of their precious door slammers being knocked off in favour of a billy cart!
