Coniston should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Ascari only produced very few customer road car (last year) - according to previous threads on here - and they are homologated for Gt3 so ithink the comments are correct about an homologation life going on after production has finished.

Doesn't the manufacture do the FIA homologation? Or if the privateer team is doing the homologation, don't they have to produce 25 cars as in a small manufacture?

The ORIGINAL GT40s were Holman & Moody Mark II's, not Ford GT40s IIRC http://www.holmanmoody.com/

I don't know if this is the case, but I wonder if that under current FIA GT regs, so long as the original manufacturer has met the production requirement for the class then the team developing the car might be able to do the actual homologation?- Prodrive didn't have any factory support from Ferrari when they did the 550 Maranello for GT1 a few years back.

Wasn't it also the same thing when they started the Aston Martin project, with no factory support from Ford.

Holman & Moody wre responsible for the MkII, but John Wyer's team at FAV Slough was responsible for the original GT40. See Wyer's autobiography "The Certain Sound", pp122-125, in which he describes the development of the original Lola GT into the GT40.

It was the initial lack of success of the GT40 that prompted Ford to go to the MkII. Post 1967, with two victories at LM, they handed it all over to Wyer, now with his own company JWA, whose thinking was vindicated by two victories with the "original" GT40 in 68 and 69.

JWA were tasked with support for exisiting GT40s for some years afterwards.

Precisely!
And in no way to be confused with the Ford GT70, which was a rally car
