According to RLM , the P1 was intended for ALMS ..... now I guess its a full blown assault against Toyota and Audi ...... bring it on !!!
Plus , Porsche have said they relish the chance to race against Audi ..... great news indeed !!! |

Im confused with this Porsche program, because somewhere in this thread didnt someone post an interview that said they werent going to race in ALMS? or was that that they werent gonna be with Penske? Either way, Porsche vs Audi... :P

Porsche programs intentions are laid out in this interview, which incidentally was before the merger was announced.

You have to love the snobbery of the F1 paddock - with Porsche hiring some F1 people they have assumed they are going to start in F1 as the investment would not be worth it "only for Le Mans"

Would love to be a fly on the wall within Porsche right now. So excited to see them race in '14.

However if true and if for the Le Mans programme it add credibility to the hope that Porsche and Audi will compete at the same time.

Audi has said that they are going for Porsches Le Mans record. However i do not see the VAG group in F1 in the near future. |

There's always a lot at stake at each Le Mans.
You have to wonder who next year's race means more to in terms of an Audi win or a Toyota win? Would a Toyota win scare off Audi for '14, leaving it to Porsche? I sincerely hope not. It's not like Audi are excelling in DTM. |

This isn't a hobby for these corporations, it is business. As we've seen from Peugeot, the plug can get pulled at any point in time, if for whatever reasons situations change that make the corporation's investment no longer seem worthy, or prudent.

My, "Set in stone" was also a merely reference to the way it was said by Audi. Aren't we all under the understanding that Audi and Porsche will both compete in 2014, as the situation is currently? |

But if it's funded by Porsche USA, they will likely lobby a lot for LMP's (No intentions to start a ALMS/Grand AM discussion in here) |

I know that's the rumour but I highly doubt their aim was for anything but winning Le Mans - hence the first thing they said when they announced - 'Porsche is returning to Le Mans'. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZhOsDzSJ0bk |

This is a Porsche AG project that encompasses a substantial investment in new facilities and technology. The targets from inception where the 24hrs and WEC, a Sebring debut was envisaged when that was part of the WEC, the only other ALMS link has been with a Greg Pickett run privateer effort.
The new motorsport department will also be involved in a far bigger presence in GTE and a possible Cayman GT car. |
